Superb museum, particularly enjoyed the artwork and illustrations section but a great selection of cinema memorabilia from a wide range of genres. In addition the miniature artwork is AMAZING. Well worth a visit if in Lyon.

Easy access via the T1 tramway, easy to buy tickets there or online. From the outside you have spectacular architecture..We explored the temporary exhibitions first, starting with the photographic exhibition of Marc Riboud. To our tastes, this was the best of the galleries. Lunch in the rooftop cafe, very edible. Visited the permanent exhibitions after lunch. A well spent few hours

We made the journey to the Musee Lumiere as an excuse to go further afield during our third visit to Lyon. So glad we did! It's an easy trip on the metro, and the exit lets you out right across the street.
If you saw the movie "Paris Can Wait", the Lumiere is where Jacques took Diane and let her wander around the exhibit while he "met" with his friend who worked there. ;^)

Set in the Lumiere famiy home, you wander freely from one room to the next, seeing the history of cinema, film-making, the advancements in photography which they started, as well as their contributions to medicine and the injured during WWII.
Truly amazing and inspiring. A lovely afternoon, and walking back to the metro we stopped to watch a game of boules being played in the park across the street.

This is a small museum with an option for an extra cost demonstration of weaving on an old Jacquard loom. The museum is interesting, the explanations are in French but they have an English hand out at the front desk. The museum is well done and attractive and if you read everything you will be well informed about weaving and the frequent revolts of the weavers against their selfish capitalist masters. If you opt for the weaving demonstration they will take you across the street to see three traditional looms, one of which will be used by your guide. The explanation will be both in French and English. Then you will watch a presentation on silk, your guide will comment in French only, but be happy to answer your questions in English. The museum and demonstration are included if you have bought the Lyon City Card. This museum is not air conditioned.

I enjoyed the large area dedicated to the OL Ladies, and their success. And proudly displaying Ada Hegerberg’s Ballon D’or. It is a proud club that celebrates every aspect of football, from players to staff to supporters.

OK, so my background is in printing and publishing, so this was right in my wheelhouse. If you don't care about the technology and development of this craft, you may be bored. But I realized as I pored over the excellent displays here that printing has been the most important technology to open up the world until the cellphone and internet. And I never knew that so much of it was centered in Lyon. Almost all descriptions are in French and English; many museums use a clumsy word-for-word translation into English, but the descriptions here are clear and elegant. You could probably spend 90 minutes here, but I think I spent twice that. Truly, one of the finest museums I visited on this tour of Europe, even though I'm biased. The building itself is fascinating and very old. I can't wait to return!

Very well done highly didactic museum with some beautiful pieces, especially considering the limited amount available compared to major sites in other countries. The curators have really made the most of what they have found in the area. Some of the mosaics are lovely, but one above all is World class, one of the very best I have ever seen, and it is amazing that, hidden carefully away, it has not been offered as a nice big poster in the shop. Knowing friends in the field of archeology I would imagine people coming from all over the world to see this piece, frankly on a par artistically with the greatest museum offerings or a renowned and famous piece of architecture or painting. The archeological area is charming and impressive.

An excellent museum, devoted to French aviation both civil and military with a range of interesting exhibits, some of them exceptionally rare.
The tours are guided and the guides are very knowledgeable . There were just the two of us and the volunteer staff went out of their way to give us a most enjoyable and informative experience.
We shall definitely go back next time we visit Lyon.

My husband really enjoyed this visit. We used public transport to get there which was quite straight forward - only a short walk from the bus. I could appreciate the lovely old house which accommodated the collection and Monsieur Malarte must have been quite a character!

Another out of the center destination is the Concept neighborhood Garnier created in the early 1920-30's. He created several of this type of city or community. Some were actually realized. The walking tour of the murals relating to Tony Garnier covers a good area so bring comfortable shoes. The read along booklet available at the Museum proper is very good. (Free w/ Lyon City Card).

Take a guided tour (I suspect that's the ONLY way you can visit here) It's astounding - very very interesting, from the wter collection basin (shown) to the impressively GIGANTIC pumps - it's a great place to visit with family and friends. I selected May 2017 as our visit, but I think it was more likely in May 2016. It doesn't matter - it's timeless.

Visited to see biennale. Large old factory used as a venue for art display- some of interest but mostly not to our taste. Not centrally sited but near confluence.

Cute little museum inside a souvenir shop. Host was very nice. Interesting collection inside of puppets and historical explanation on multiple language of Guignol.
