Absolutely loved the feeling of genuine history. Horse cart ride through both Medina and Rabat. To see how much of this place is intact and being lived in is such a great experience.

The rather plain outside does not hint at the explosion of Baroque which awaits you inside. Every inch of the the ceiling, walls and floor is adorned with decoration. A guided tour/audio guide would be highly recommended so that you get an understanding of the designs and meanings. The Caravaggio display is breathtaking. This is a must if you visit Valletta!

Absolutely fascinating and immersive museum that tells the story of a place, the war room, that helped change the course of history. Our guide Mike was truly exceptional, with a depth of knowledge to rival Antony Beever. I could talk to him all day about WW2. You don't have to be a historian or even interested in the war to come away impressed.

For me, this was the highlight of our stay in Malta.

Lovely gardens with good views of the Grand Harbour. A nice little bar. Good place to sit and watch the sun go down or to enjoy watching the boats during the day.

If my daughter had not been such a movie buff I would not have gone but it really turned out to be fun. The staff and characters are excellent and super interactive which I soon found is not the norm in Malta. The fun park is in fact the actual film set fishing village constructed for the 1980 Popeye movie featuring Kevin Williams bless his soul. The deal is they invite you to volunteer to become actors under direction from the staff to relive scenes from the movie which put all the actors into party mode. We all had a great day under the Malta sun

This was one of my bucket list items.

The Hagar Qim temples are over 5000 years old dating from the Ġgantija phase (3600–3200 BC). The Ħaġar Qim façade contains the largest stone used in Maltese megalithic architecture, weighing 57 tons.
Some believe the temples were built by giants which inhabited the island in the past.

Features of temple architecture reveal possible associations with fertility rituals, including corpulent figurines and statuary, together with solar alignments. Pottery and other artifacts discovered during excavation can be viewed at the National Archeological Museum in Valletta.

Other Ggantija temples even older are located just north on the Maltese island of Gozo which is a 15 min ferry ride.

At the Hagar Qim visitors center you can purchase your entrance ticket for $10 EU and download and audio guide to listen to during your walk thru the temples which provides insight about each marked stop. There is also a gift shop with cold drinks available for purchase.

The temples are located on the southeast coast of Malta.

The first temple is easy to access and a short walk.

The second temple is a bit further down and very near the coastal cliffs. The uncovered pathway to it has a slight downward grade and is about 400-500 yards to reach the 2nd temple. The path is rocky with a narrow man made erected bridge which you will cross. It’s not a difficult walk but does require a bit of effort to walk back up.
Both ruins are covered to protect them from the elements but the pathway is not. I visited in November and it was fine but in the summer this would be in the direct heat of the day.

As the ancient ruins and historical of Malta were the reason for my visit I found Hagar Qim did not disappoint. I recommend a visit to everyone but suggest doing a bit of your research about this UNESCO site beforehand which will enhance your experience.

Cannot believe how much of the Citadel can be visited for free.
We happened to visit on a day when the parts of the Citadel that requires payment was closed (Monday). But still so much to see.
Arrived and parked right outside the site 4pm, no charge for car park.
Overall very well kept. Well worth a visit.

There are two routes. One from the Valletta water front to the three cities, you cross the Grand Harbour. The other from the other side of the Valletta peninsular to Sliema which saves a long bus journey. Both routes offer great views. 2€ single or 3€ return.

We went for the In Guardia performance as well as the tour. Note the opening times are a little confusing. When the In Guardia is on, access before the performance is only to the lower fort. The performance is very entertaining and tells you a bit of history of the knights of St John and features some gunshots and sword fighting. The lower fort tells the history of the fort and contains memorials to some WWII submarines and their crews. The upper fort contains the history of war in Malta and also offers the chance to see Faith, the last of the three famous Gloucester Gladiators and the actual George Cross awarded to the island and its people.
It's a few minutes walk from the city centre or get there on one of the hop-on hop-off tours.
