What travelers are saying
- Richard WPenn Valley, CA862 contributionsThis is an open air museum which offers a glimpse of life in Iceland from years ago. Many of the buildings are authentic and have been moved to this location. Some are authentic to this location. The people of Iceland are descendants of the Vikings. They were used to hardships and using whatever was available to survive in this new land. Some of the very basic ways people lived were still in use into the mid-1900's.
I found this museum to be fascinating.Written August 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. With the tide out you can cross to the lighthouse and walk around the island.Written March 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - John SHorsham, UK122 contributionsThis small museum was the home of Einer Jonsson and houses a large collection of his works, particularly his fascinating sculptures. There is also a sculpture garden.
Well worth a visit, it is located very close to Hallgrimskirkja church but I suspect often overlooked because the facade facing the church is rather forbidding. I went soon after it opened on a cold and rainy day and had the place to myself; but due to the poor weather I didn't get to see the sculpture garden.Written July 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David APreston, UK524 contributionsThis is a fantastic nature reserve that you get to by ferry. We had a 2 day city card that included this trip. You do need to check ferry times as their website wasn’t overly accurate. The island has an interesting history and there are many places that will explain it. There is an art installation as well as the natural wildlife. Paths are marked out as good, ok and a little tricky. Definitely well worth a visit.Written August 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Ričards EdijsLatvia430 contributionsThe museum itself and its surroundings were created and projected by the artist Ásmundar Sveinsson as a place where his legacy could be exhibited. In the park, his sculptures are exhibited and they can be viewed free of charge. Indoors, there is a changing exhibition, as well as many of the same sculptors yet on a much smaller scale so they could be viewed from a different perspective.Written October 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - traveljunkie1983Calgary, Canada349 contributionsHaukadalur Geothermal Area was what my 5 & 7 year olds chose as the major highlight of Iceland. I have to agree with them that it was an amazing place! The Strokkur Geyser erupts every 5 min or so and every time it was shock and awe for everyone there. It was a busy spot, but there are lots of places to walk and spread out. We didn't hike up to the look out point as our littles were tired and not interested, but I imagine it would be fun to see the view from there. There is a free parking lot here as well, and a gift shop/restaurant and bathroom here as well.Written September 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Adele CVancouver Island, Canada5 contributionsWe had such a great time exploring our Viking roots. Totally enjoyable experience. Getting dressed up, and feeling the characters develop. We both something inside neither of us knew we had. Thank you so much for the professionalism, knowledge and tact exhibited. Highlight of our time in Reyjkavik.Written September 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- matthewmcneil90Lincoln, UK66 contributionsWeird to visit a cemetery but very beautiful, felt more in touch with nature given that it’s so well populated with trees. Very peaceful space to walk.Written October 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- GRZChicago, IL11,708 contributionsWe decided to take an afternoon walk from our hotel - it was almost 2 miles each way... which we slightly underestimated :) most of it is waterfront scenic but for some reason upon arrival I expected something else and as unique as it was it was a slight let down if I should be perfectly honest here
Best part is probably the "circular/spiral" pathway to the top - pretty relaxing - also there is a bench near by where you can just sit down and chill. There is a small parking lot and most people drive a car to get here, some take bicycles and few of us walk - since this is somewhat a significant distance from the hotels through basically industrial area of the marina/where all of the FlyIceland/Omnom and the like are locatedWritten August 31, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Wonderful evocative visit. Loved it. Staff is very friendly, kind, and welcoming (and speak excellent English). The house is how the family left it and the setting along the river is beautifulWritten July 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ričards EdijsLatvia430 contributionsI visited the Nordic House several times, and it never stopped to surprise me. Every smallest detail has been thoroughly thought out, the building is located in a very scenic place with a wonderful view of the city, and the library and the children's department are marvelously created. Entrance is free of charge, there are commonly exhibitions and events free of charge (See additional information in their webpage social media)Written December 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Trav_LN_nowCrystal Lake, IL512 contributionsThe red cliffs at Heidmork Nature Reserve are amazing! The colors of the volcanic remains are just beautiful. Be careful of the horse droppings though, because they are everywhere due to the horse rental tours down the road. A great place to stop and take a hike though without driving too far out of Reykjavik. No charge to enterWritten March 19, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- TakeHeedCirencester, UK59 contributionsWe decided to take the bus from where were were staying to the Grotto Light House and then walk back along the Seltjarnarnes Peninsula Jogging Path back in the Reykjavik. The whole area was so peaceful, very few tourists or locals. I have a special affinity with the coast and certainly felt it here :) Luckily my daughter had the foresight to Google Maps the little foot bath on route or we would have missed it. The water was so warm and my calves tingled for the rest of the walk. It slippery inside though so you need to be careful stepping in... and I am 5' 8" and the water pretty much reached my knees. The walk with the wind in your hair, and the salt in your nose was wonderful. Make sure you wrap up warm though. My only gripe would be the need for a public toilet somewhere along the routeWritten September 15, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - hybridfuelsCalgary124 contributionsBrautarholt is an amazing ocean side course with plenty of photographic vistas and ocean breezes that turn into heavy winds. We had sun and sparse cloud cover, which made the photos even better, it was warm, but windy. We walked the course instead of taking a cart, glad we did, but there is some long treks between holes and plenty of elevation changes. We did the front 9 X2, so it became more familiar the second go round. Highly rated and for good reason.Written July 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
