What travelers are saying
- rockobellomontreal401 contributionsDark, gothic and interesting all in one. The architecture is cool and the inside worth a visit. Would recommend a walk around the area too.Written September 29, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- BrakiWorldTravelerBelgrade, Serbia19,452 contributionsThis small Church is located in downtown Reykjavik, on the main square, next door to Icelandic Parliament.
Domkirkjan is in fact the main Lutheran Cathedral of Iceland, not the Hallgrimskirkja.
The interiors are more beautiful and decorated than the austere ones in Hallgrimskirkja.Written November 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. When u fly from a country that different in geography and weather, Prostrate and say thanks to Him in a proper way. I thanks for those who have funded to build this masjid. Our small donation may help to keep maintaining this place. A must visit by all Muslim who travel to Iceland.Written August 10, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - bskramerThe Villages, FL320 contributionsDue to some changes in our travel scheduled that required us to stay near Reyjavik longer than we expected, we had the opportunity to visit the home of the President of Iceland. We were impressed by the ideal setting along the coast and enjoyed the ride there. We visited in the morning and were the only tourists visiting. Even though it was windy, we took very scenic photographs of the church and ceremonial buildings. Only a chain and sign indicated the boundary for tourists. At the time we visited, there was only one police car parked at the home. It is a beautiful serene setting that reminded us of how a civilized world should operate. We spent about 30 minutes here before departing. Since this is an easy stop in or out of Reykjavik, it is well worth a 45-minute stop.Written June 2, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - lonewolf44Kingston upon Thames, UK1,303 contributionsVidey Island is just a short ferry trip from Reykjavik and the first thing you see as the boat arrives is this whitewashed little church. The door was unlocked so I was able to get inside: it is unusual as there is a chair next to the altar, which is apparently where the priest heard confession before the service. There are a few graves inn the churchyard: some of those buried there lived tragically short lives. It is worth going over to Videy for the views across to Reykjavik and for the sense of being in the wilds, despite being so close to the city. There is no permanent population on the island any more.Written August 5, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
