What travelers are saying
- GMuirThirroul, Australia87 contributionsVisited the Tampere 1918, Games, Natural history, Ice hockey, Findlayson & fairy tale sections.
The games museum was hands down my favourite section with it recreations of rooms through the decades, it felt like a Time Machine.
Tampere 1918 was interesting but I felt I learnt more having attended anothe Medien earlier in my trip with more English signage.
The peppers ghost display in the Findlayson section was also quite coolWritten 28 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I would say you need no more then 1 hour in the exhibit. There are other attractions at this location also.Written 17 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- GMuirThirroul, Australia87 contributionsInteresting museum but could do with a bit of polish & more interactivity. Given the name of the museum, tracking Lenin’s life more chronologically would be a plus. The immersive living room display is good. Unfortunately there was a lot of information presented on screens that required you to page through rather than dynamically communicated through exhibits.Written 28 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ville JKokkola, Finland49 contributionsFirst of all, it's free. Tons of work related history. There was also an unrelated temporarily added photo exhibition.Written 2 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sofia MHelsinki, Finland456 contributionsVisited the museum with friends. Impressive building in nice surrounding. Exhibition was around „still still life“. Interesting and different. Not too many people, which was good, due to limited amount of parking placesWritten 13 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Heli PHelsinki, Finland6,316 contributionsThe building seen from above resembles a big male capercaillie in his pride so the library is known in Finnish as Metso. Architect couple Raili and Reima Pietiläs' design from 1986 has assymetrical lines and unexpected nooks both inside and out. The fame of Metso earned them the priviledge to create in 1993 Mäntyniemi in Helsinki, the formal residence of our president.Written 21 July 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GMuirThirroul, Australia87 contributionsGood content but displays are very tired & need updating. Lots of reading for items to make contextual sense. English guide book needs better integration with the exhibits & the spy profiles.Written 28 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Very easy to see everything systematically. I would recommend going right when they open, as i hear it get crowded since its a free museum. We were there immediately when they opened and in the first hour there were already kids and people more than one would hope. This is also a very popular spot for families with children so if you want to avoid crowds of kids, try to go early.Written 4 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Leif BPietarsaari, Finland2,744 contributionsWhen I was to Vapriikki I also visited the Finnish Postal Museum, which tells the story of Finnish postal history and different phenomena around messaging and transporting in different decades. The Finnish Postal Museum has a vast collection of artifacts and photos as well as stamps published in Finland, along with philatelic special exhibitions.Written 19 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ville JKokkola, Finland49 contributionsIt's a tidy small museum about Emil's art collection and his work history. Downstairs is filled with art and some ornaments I especially liked Ferdinand Von Wright's works. The price is great. 3€ for adults.Written 2 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Leif BPietarsaari, Finland2,744 contributionsWhen I was to the Museum Centrum Vapriikki I also visited The Rupriikki exhibition, which shows the importance of information networks in the history of communications through interesting examples. The exhibition also presents Tampere media history. Here is also interesting samples of early mobile phones.Written 19 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lady RJyväskylä, Finland5 contributionsA very interesting retrospect of games and gaming culture in Finland. Hands-on approach with the more fragile items in display cases was a nice surprise, I had assumed we were going there only to look at things.Written 7 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - gardengrovespinJoensuu, Finland8 contributionsThis is one of those unassuming places which don't really advertise themselves but if you're a friend of fine arts, it's certainly worth a visit. Open only for a few hours a day. A cool, peaceful haven after a hot day; we almost got the whole place for ourselves.
A well-kept building with an interesting collection, especially highlighting the late 19th century Finnish art, antique furniture and silverware. Fascinating souvenir collection. At the time of our visit the temporary exhibition was about Catherine Val. Every display room has small info on the original owner of the collection (Kustaa Hiekka) and his family history. Don't expect an action-packed experience with all the modern gimmicks, but it's not some forgotten dusty warehouse either. A walk-through takes about an hour.
The staff were friendly. Right inside the main doors we were presented disposable shoe covers(!) to wear during our visit because of the vulnerable original carpets. Didn't bother us. Remember: all photography is prohibited inside!Written 14 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
