Everyone should try this when they are visiting Tampere. This historical sauna is open for all ages!

Very difficult to know where to start to describe what a super experience this was. I guess it begins with a beautiful walk from Tampere city centre through the woods alongside Lake Nasijarvi to find the wooden sauna buildings tucked away in a cove on the lake. It was out of season so the cafe was closed, air temp around 6 degrees but very windy which brought the real temperature down somewhat (as my wife will attest as she spent 2 hours in the cold waiting for me to finish!!). The sauna is extremely hot, the hottest I experienced in Finland, so flip flops and portable wooden boards are provided to use (for walking around and sitting on). Many regulars wear beanie hats to protect their hair and scalp which, having been in without, is a very good idea. The real crowning glory of this sauna is the easy access (via steps) to the pristine, clear, cold choppy waters of the lake. The routine as far as I could figure out was:
    1. Get very, very hot in the sauna
    2. Go for a swim in the aforementioned lake
    3. Sit down on the benches outside the sauna (with not a goosebump in sight), drinking a can of beer alongside your hypothermic wife who is wrapped in thick layers, yet still freezing to death.
    4. Repeat several times.

This, I can assure you is a recipe for a brief few hours of Finnish happiness that even tourists can access.

Note that the changing rooms are separate for male and female but the sauna is mixed as bathing costumes are worn.

The Finnish speciality -barrel sauna- is to be experienced at least once in the lifetime! Wood heated, no showers, but the lake is right there. So summer and winter, enjoy the refreshing dip in the lake. Dressing room in a separate building. If you want a private visit, contact the sauna in beforehand tohlopin.uimaseura@gmail.com.

Pre-booking needed. Idyllic sauna by a small Suolijärvi lake in Hervanta offers a true live-like-a-local experience. No showers, dressing rooms in a separate building. You can take the tram to Hervanta Campus and walk about 1 kilometer to get here.

Just for the look of it it's worth visiting! Built from massive logs, right by the lake in idyllic setting this sauna is The Sauna. Public sauna is open couple of times a month, so check the times from their website. You can bring your own drinks or by beverages and snacks from Niemi-Kapee.

No public transport available all the way, so you'll need a car or a boat to get here.

Take a bus to Lentävänniemi and walk to the Suomensaaren sauna. Hot sauna and cold lake ensure a memorable experience! Take your own water botlle of drinking water, because in the sauna they use only lakewater, which is not recommended for drinking (but leaves your skin and hair so soft!)

In the summer the experience is surely different with midnight sun, but in the winter it is surely refreshing :-)

    I love this place.

It's feels so retro and real authentic gym in Tampere. Since 1982 they said. That's a long time.

You can train with locals and only 7 eur one time fee. Great place to be especially on a rainy day ;)

Good place to work out. Nice machines. A bit overpriced but good.
