A spacious and beautiful building with a wonderful collection of archeological finds from the area but the standouts are the mosaics. Just superb. Everything is well displayed and not crowded at all.

Whilst somewhat at odds with the antiquity elsewhere in and around the city, this relatively recent addition to the city is amazing… believed to contain the relics of St Andrew, (piece of skull and a finger) in a beautiful silver box, and the cross he is said to have been crucified upon, This is revered by the faithful, and well worth seeing* and experience the quiet solemnity of the church. most amazing thing for me was the enormous centre piece wooden light arrangement..

It’s delightful to be able to visit the inner yard of this medieval castle and it’s going to get even better when restoration work is completed around the old fortifications.

Just a short 5 minute walk from the busy town centre, you enter the castle and a sense or serenity engulfs you.

Worth a visit if you happen to visit the seaside city of Patras.

The odeum is a must see! It’s very beautiful and amazing to see this historic site! They continue to have theatre performances here so see one if you can while visiting here.

Our visit to the winery was terrific. We were given a tour by our lovely host, Liana, who took time to explain the history of Achaia Clauss, before taking us through a delicious wine tasting.

We even left with 4 bottles of wine, all of which were well priced and serve as great souvenirs of our visit. I couldn’t recommend this place enough.

We had to remain in the city of Patras only for half day and we wanted to do something more than just wondering around !

So we chose the Wine Connoisseurs to take us to the Achaia Clauss winery for a private wine tasting experience!

We tasted five premium wines  and among them the famous variety of Mavrodaphne.

The wine tasting was private in the Villa of Gustav Claus and then we had lunch that had been organized for us!

We also visited the imperial cellar and the wine museum. Everything was as promised and the experience custom made to our taste!

Thank you Andriana for the lovely day we spent together!!

If you are anywhere near Patras then this is highly recommended. Very reasonable 3euro entrance fee for a walk around a stunning site. Beautifully kept and with the most fabulous views and the archaeological interest of ancient tombs, this was a highlight for us.

When the city was liberated, in 1828, the population of Patras numbered a mere 4000 inhabitants, while most of the houses had been destroyed during the struggle for independence. During the Turkish occupation, most of the city inhabitants lived around and close to the Castle. When the 1828, Stamatis Voulgaris drafted a city plan by order of the governor , a remodeling of the Old and Upper city was proposed, as well as its extension to the west and as far as the beach, an area which , until then, consisted of agricultural land and marshes, with very few buildings.
The houses built in the New and Lower City are statelier and reflect the affluence of the owners, who were usually merchants, landowners and, later, men of science.
The city’s direct link to Ionian island, the development of trade, the city’s international community, the patriotic ideology and the Western Romanticism, all led to the establishment of Neoclassicism as the dominant architectural style in the city

The Apollo Municipal Theatre can be said to represent the splendor of neoclassical architecture, at least in regard to Patras.

On the 21st August I was with my friends in Waterpark Calma. For students is price 7€ for all day, so it’s good. For the lunch we had Classic Club Sendwich and salad (like Caesar, but with cherry tomatos). We enjoyed our meal. Prices are little bit higher (especially for the drinks), but still is good. Water attractions are funny, almost no waiting. Just one thing was worse - drinks on the bars. Big beer costs 4,50€, but it’s only 400 ml. Mojito costs 9€, but you don’t get a mojito, it’s some alkohol with some sirup, water and ice ...

Very crowded but quiet place, beautiful view of the sea and also the mountains that surround the area. Cool place in the summer seasons due to the trees. It is also a place to do physical exercises in the open air. Beautiful sunsets and sometimes night activities.
