- AriyyaKuwait City, Kuwait389 contributionsThis place deserves a stop if you are nearby. The views are stunning. There are also different wine makers that offer wine tasting tours here. Definitely a must-visit to see this unique, terraced vineyard.Written September 2, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - go401Grand Forks79 contributionsI was staying in Geneva and took a day trip out along the lake. Ended up in Aigle. The walk up to the castle is easy, 10-15 minutes from the train station with beautiful views of the town and surrounding mountains. The castle itself looked well used and not updated which kind of made it look more authentic (contrast to Château de Chillon which has been "restored" and looks straight out of "The Princess Bride"). It was a quiet late afternoon and I was one of 2 people visiting. I walked around the grounds and took some pics. There is a restaurant next to it that looked good, but expensive (~40F entres).
I decided to look around for other options - Highly recommend Badan Vins just down the hill from the castle for a wine tasting, I rate them 5/5, but they are only open (?) Thurs and Fri evenings (1600-1900) and Sat (1000-1300).Written November 17, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Inside there is a restaurant with the name '1584', which is the year, when this wine press and meeting point for the local vintners was first mentioned. At the end of the 18th century the building was renewed and expanded, as is explained on a nearby information board.
It is only a few years ago that the 'Trotte' was restored and opened as a restaurant. Also a wine is made here, which too bears the name '1584'. To be called a 'mountain wine press' is slightly exaggerated, especially for Switzerland, but here in the northern canton of Schaffhausen the 'mountains' are more like hills, for me an area, where I always enjoy going for not so strenuous hikes early or late in the year.
There are several hiking paths passing by the 'Trotte', even an 'Erlebnisweg Bergtrotte' out of the lovely village of Osterfingen, but there is also a 'Blauburgunderpfad', going past vineyards in this southern part of Schaffhausen, called Klettgau. I especially appreciate that the small country roads here are not paved as in many other parts of Switzerland. This can be explained with the fact that we are here in the northern foothills of the Jura mountain range with its dry limestone soil.Written March 13, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The winery is easily reached by the local train using the free public transportation pass given by most hotels. It has a nice view of Lutry, is small and personal, and has great wines. The tasting fee of 12 CHF included 5 wines and a enough cheese, sausage and crackers that it can make a light meal. The pours were more generous than most tasting rooms, expecting you to take time to pair the wine with the different snacks. The staff was fun and very knowledgeable. We were there on a rainy day, but they have a terrace that would be great on a sunny afternoon.Written October 18, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LoveToTravel0007Houston, TX547 contributionsSo not sure what impression the title of my review gave you but it entails the whole experience. It felt like visiting relatives which also meant it was not super exciting but very relaxing, and felt familiar and fun.
The wine were good but nothing exceptional but you go here for a taste of the whole experience. The view, the lovely patio and the friendly (again, almost family-like) treatment.
If you are looking for the next 98 point wine bottle, I doubt you'll find it here. If you are looking for a relaxing place with friendly people and an amazing view, do go here.Written July 14, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. After tasting, we purchased some nice wine with nice discounts.
If you are taking public transport to get here, you will have to take a 15-minute walk on the road, but also with marvelous scenery and can have a close look into the grape fields.Written February 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The wine tasting room has beautiful views and spacious family style communal seating. The owners and host of the wine tasting were wonderful at letting us try all their delicious wines and making us feel welcome (they spoke English well). They also had bread and cheese available for the tasting. We ended up staying way past the wine tasting closing time and walked away with lots of great wine! Their oeil de perdrix (rose), Pinot noir (charlotte) and Marc were our favorites of the night. I also loved the pur sang Pinot noir!! I would highly recommend going there for a wine tasting - you may want to call beforehand to let them know you're coming.Written October 28, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
