Such an iconic building, stunningly beautiful, we climbed to the top of the tower - well worth it, the views are amazing.
We loved Pisa, obviously very touristy but everyone having a good time, highly recommend a visit.

Walking just a little way from the hectic area of the Leaning Tower of Pisa we came across this square which was practically deserted. It's the second biggest square in Pisa - The Knights Square! Nowadays it is a centre of education, being the main house of the Scuola Normale di Pisa, a higher learning institution part of the University.

We walked slowly around it trying to keep to the shadows of the buildings as it was a blisteringly hot day in August. There was nowhere to sit down here for a coffee or an ice cream so inevitably we moved out of the square to find refreshments elsewhere.

A pretty cheerful mural, plenty of colour, I've no idea if there's any deeper meaning to it but apparently having been there for 25 years it still looks pretty vibrant.

Worth going 5 minutes out of your way to have a look

This narrow street connects the river Arno and the piazza Garibaldi with the rest of the northern part of the city. I went back to Pisa for a day after 4 years and I enjoyed walking under the arches again.

We love marina di Pisa as a place to casually stroll by the sea, taste some nice restaurants without a haste and thousands of tourists.

Basilica romanics di San Piero a Grado is a church located near Pisa, in the place, where according to the legend, St. Peter landed in Italy, so it is a very important place for Christians. Nowadays, there is not coast here, because in the last twenty centuries, the coast go to Marina di Pisa. The building is a big Roman church built in the 11-12th Centuries in the old port of Pisa. If you enter, really it is impressive. Very interesting place for history-lovers.

This is the main shopping street where you can find many different shops, restaurants, cafes, and gelaterias. I like gelateria which is near Garibaldi's monument (it is twice cheaper than near the tower).
From the airport, the beginning of this street (Central station) is 15-20 minutes by foot.

Although the full length of the wall wasn't open, €3 was a very reasonable price to be able to walk the part of the wall that is open. Great view of the Piazza dei Miracoli, but also things you can't see from the Piazza, such as the Jewish cemetery, and also (a bit randomly!) three military jet planes at I.I.S.L. da Vinci-Fascetti

The historic center of Pisa is very interesting and is not limited to the Piazza dei Miracoli and the Leaning Tower. There are many more interesting narrow streets, churches and even large squares that are worth exploring.

A small museum which is dedicated to the wall coverings that were painted over the early centuries. At the end of ww2 after extensive damage most were removed from the walls and repair or treated to prevent them decaying completely and this museum holds the saved work. Only takes an hour to go around and some interesting pieces.

This is a fantastic statue of the famous duo and the female wolf.
The statue is located just next to the tower.

This beautiful marble statue is just along the walkway, in the Piazza dei Miracoli. Folks were using it as a seating area when I was there. I stopped to take a photo and then find out more online.
The fountain was functional when it was first installed in the 17th century as it provided water for locals before there was indoor plumbing. The sculptor is Giovanni Antonio Cybei.
