What travelers are saying
- DR SEETBournemouth, UK249 contributionsThis gorgeous building is a delectable fusion of the old and the new, combining all the character features of a Canarian townhouse with contemporary touches into a fabulous art space that houses both the Cristino de Vera collection (noted for their quasi meditative ruminations on the afterlife) and touring exhibitions. Workshops and film screenings are conducted and when we were there, the eminent La Palma artist Carmen Arozena was also being showcased. Entry is free and the person at the reception counter is a fount of knowledge, who not only clarified our many queries about Spanish art but also highlighted the maintenance issues associated with the dampness and humidity of La Laguna.Written May 26, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Patck810County Dublin, Ireland111 contributionsI did not know about this place until a friend took me there. It’s near to the harbour in Santa Cruz and we passed by several government buildings to get there, some beautiful buildings and worth stopping to admire. The building of the TEA is unique and very surprising. Inside the displays were fascinating, with some interactive sections. There is particularly a wonderful section for children with explanatory notes in Spanish and English. There they can create their own art using material provided. The library is vast and was being used by a lot of people reading and working on computers. I will be checking to see what different displays they have for a further visit.Written December 29, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 4raylLondon, UK38 contributionsThe Gallery has developed a lot over the last year under the guidance of new management, focusing on new local artists. The mural on the front by WhirleyTimes is magnificent and reflects the energy of the gallery and island. Well worth a pit stop in santa cruz especially if you like artWritten April 12, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TracieW3 contributionsThis is an amazing art gallery featuring mostly artists from the Canary Islands. We had a tour of each of the rooms of the former grand house featuring art pieces relevant to the room: bedrooms, kitchen, stables, chapel. Excellent visit. - spannerwingnutLondon, UK376 contributionsThis is a tiny museum, but worth a look if you have any interest in ceramics and hand-building techniques! The history of the pottery in the local area is very interesting! The visit mainly is a video, followed by a small exhibit. We arrived too late for a demonstration as the potters had finished for the day (3pm) but we had a look at the studio and the old brick kiln. The shop has some nice handmade jewellery & magnets for sale but were sold out of items made using the traditional methods, but usually you can buy bowls and jugs too.
Worth a stop if you visit Candelaria & support this little part of local history!Written March 27, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DR SEETBournemouth, UK249 contributionsWhat an amazing space - a cultural arena converted from a former chemical storage plant! We were so fortunate to be given a special guided tour and commentary by one of the curators, Domingo Gonzalez Galvan, who elucidated for us the idea behind the current installation, Uncertainty - the Spanish entry to the recent Venice Bienale. You really need to visit in order to appreciate both the cleverness and topicality of the concept as well as how brilliantly articulated and executed it is, particularly in tandem with the spatial dynamics, the soundtrack, lights and projections. And finally, by immersing yourself within the installation itself, you will be astounded by the mind-blowing logistics and technical finesse involved in its creation. In a few words : profound, thought-provoking, cutting-edge, hypnotic, world-class. Highly recommended.Written May 27, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- DustyBillBrisbaneLondon, UK267 contributionsThis museum is in an old building around a green quadrangle. It has a slightly odd collection of craft objects from Latin America and Spain. So rooms are a bit dull, but it is a crafts museum. However, other rooms have some very unusual exhibits. The staff were friendly and helpful.Written December 2, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
