Very good idea. You buy a book and you just follow the signs and learn about the town in your own pace. I like it a lot

Great historic basilica with a perfect location on top of the village. To get a full and complete experience try to attend a classic catholic mass.

The city square is a nice setting, dominated by the palais facade and framed by a half circle of stone buildings. There was a Christmas tree made up of tens of trees at the centre of the square.

The facade of this église is covered in rows of decorative (not gargoyles...can't remember the correct term...but those). Worth passing by!

I escaped the September heat wave by visiting the Duke’s palace in Nantes. It’s easy to take the tram from the train station to the palace. The museum features plenty of maritime historical items. There were models, carved ship figureheads, and ornate Chinese decor.

A really lovely city although sad to see homeless people on the main road from the station to the centre of Dijon. However, once in the centre it is a very charming place with great historical places to visit and some nice restaurants around the city.

Visiting this ancient abbey is a unique experience not to be missed. As well as a place of worship, it has been a home for the monks and place of refuge and comfort for others.

On the top of the hill the Cathedrale Saint-Etienne dominates the landscape of Auxerre. It is a 13th-16th century Gothic cathedral in really good condition with stained glass windows dating from that time. The façade is detailed and there are numerous sculptures and small decorations inside to admire.

There are multiple doors into the Cathedral. If the first door isn't open walk around and try another (we saw some people give up on the first one). The crypt wasn't open when we visited so check opening times but I would have liked to have viewed it.

While in Dijon for several days we stopped in to tour on our own. Needless to say it was amazing taking in all the details of the architecture…inside and out. After taking in the beauty and learning more about the history, we also decided to return on Sunday for mass. A touching and heartwarming experience even though we don’t speak French. If in Dijon, we suggest you take the time to visit.

Though Sens is one of the smallest cathedrals it is the oldest. Furthermore, they provide well written plates with information on details about the architecture and the stained windows. Exceptional are the windows that show the life of Thomas Becket; they date from the 13the century. As they hang lower than many others, e.g., in Chartres, you should take your time to appreciate its craftsmanship.

Travelling through France for a couple of weeks, we were staying here for 2 nights in a lovely apartment in old town.
We arrived by BlaBla Bus which drops you within a 10 minute walk of the old town.
As we approached the river, we were amazed at how lovely it was with all the old buildings lining the river and park.
The old town is quite steep and has lots of cobbles.
We wandered throughout the old town for a couple of days taking in the food and a couple of bars.
The people were friendly and we thought it was definitely worth a visit.

Like a picture post card, beautiful views of endless vineyards, stopped by for picnic. There are benches every so often along the road.

Paray Le Monial is a lovely little town to walk around and explore and the Basilica is no exception!
