Hard to believe how undervalued this place is. Its immensely impressive. Stopped off there today for my lunch break and had the place to myself. A proper hidden jem. Theres queues (and entry fee's) to far less worthy places. 100% worth a visit, at least once.

Have passed by this workhouse many times and never stopped to visit, until Easter 2024. Our visit was so worthwhile. It was a very evocative and sad experience. We visited on a very cold day and we could only imagine how the workhouse inmates must have felt, wearing threadbare workhouse uniforms, in unheated buildings. Our volunteer guide ( a local) was very knowledgeable. He described horrific conditions within the workhouse in the mid 1800's. This is a huge site, but not all the buildings are open to the public yet. We hope funding can be found to enable the remaining buildings on this site to be opened (eg the infirmary). Be prepared to shed a tear at what you may learn from your guide...

My cousin recommended a visit to the Tea rooms and we were delighted with the lunch and desserts. Staff were super friendly. Pauline was really helpful. We shall be taking a happy memory of our visit. Thank you to the staff we met.

Fantastic walk and lovely area. We had a wheelchair also and it was an easy walk with it, a few roots had to be navigated but they were not bad really.

Where to begin? Thank you David for taking the time to show our group what is obviously your labor of love and one that has been in your family for so very long. The tasting room is beautiful and the surrounding buildings hold so much history. The tour of the brewery was very informative, but the best part was the beer. Every offering was amazing! I only wish that we could drop your brewery here in Michigan.

Lovely views - the main keep was easy to walk around
Parking available and pretty church nearby.

Lovely peaceful walk through the old unused bog. Level easy walk on gravel and boardwalks. Lots of birds in the forest area.

I attending a wedding here recently. Great venue with a multitude of uses. The gardens and dining spaces are fantastic and offer a unique almost festival like experience.
All of the food served on the day was tasty and there was plenty of it. The chicken satay skewers were delicious.

We went in the Summer with the kids and dog. Easily the most scenic location in the Midlands. Well worth a visit.

The tour starts with a video that covers some of the history of Mountmellick and the embroidery. After the video there is a hosted tour. Our host was very informative about the history of the embroidery (started by the Quakers, the white on white is due to the Quakers' ideals around the simple things in life). She was able to answer all our questions and spent as much time as we wanted in the museum. The embroidery is beautiful but even if embroidery is not your thing then the history behind the Quakers and the transportation of the local girls is fascinating. This is a small but important piece of Irish history. It is good that it is being preserved and the museum is well worth a visit.

We happened by this castle on our way to the Ring of Kerry. What a happy accident! This castle is from the 1400's and has been beautifully restored by the owner, Grace Pym, an Irish historian and ancestor of prior castle owners. Grace was an amazing host and full of a tremendous amount of knowledge, not just regarding the castle and its history, but also the history of the Celtic people. We had a wonderful time! We highly recommend adding this castle to your itinerary!

We visited last Saturday. It was my second time to this delightful garden and again it’s such a lovely place. Beautiful formal gardens and then a lovely riverside walk. Pet pigs and donkeys so plenty of variety. The owner is so welcoming and there is no risk of not being able to social distance. Lots of lovely plants to take home too would absolutely recommend a visit
