Beautiful in sunshine, exhilerating in a storm, eerie at night... worth the trip in every weather. This little corner of Anglesey has so much history and on a decent day the walking is superb. My wife and I were there for storm Kathleen, and sunshine, probably the best combination possible.
For only a tenner you can climb the tower and have a superb guided tour. Everyone was lovely and our guide was so knowledgeable, entertaining, and accomodating we ended up having rather more than our allotted time up in the lantern room with the irish sea and thousands of years of history. We learned so much about the facility but also about the wildlife - not just sea birds but three types of sea mammal (I wont steal his thunder).
On the practical side, small children and anyone out of health should stay below. There are no toilets! No food or drink etc as its a reserve. Ideally buy your tickets up at the RSPB visitors centre but we had cash handy (no signal, no cards!).
With a head buzzing full of all the fascinating facts the climb back up actually felt easier than the climb down had been - good steps washed with a stream of water in the rain. Glad I was in walking boots.
Loved this place, the whole area as well as the actual lighthouse. Most definitely coming back.

The museum is amazing. The tour guides are so informative, the artefacts and history are well presented. The Harbour restaurant we highly recommend, best to book though. A fabulous day out.

Well sign posted. Plenty of car park spaces. (We gather in the height of season that there aren't enough car park spaces). The rain held off but it was quite windy. We went appropriately dressed with waterproofs and walking boots, which was needed. Some of the paths were very muddy or under water due to previous rain. The cliffs are rugged and beautiful. The larger birds, gulls and choughs, enjoyed the winds but it was a bit much for the small birds. Out of season for some birds. The lighthouse was closed to visitors. The visitors center was very good. Light airy and clean café. Clean toilets. The staff very all very pleasant. Lora was particularly informative and helpful as was Jane.
Only concern the number of bags of dog faeces littering the reserve.

Just live bringing the dog to Holyhead for a long walk up the breakwater.

Also a very good place to go spinning for fish during the walk as the place has an abundance of Whitting and Herring with the odd winter mackerel thrown in

    And the dog doesn't mind

Free parking and a lovely walk through the woods and onto a sandy beach with glorious views.
From the car park the area in front was full of fascinating seabirds, a little egret, curlews etc

I want to give them 5 stars but little things get in the way. e.g. when you’ve paid out for a Premium ticket, it’s not unreasonable to expect decent Wi-Fi without having to fork out an extra €4. Toilets closed on Premium level - presumably to save cleaning costs. No hot food in Premium lounge. The ferry is a great way to travel to/from Ireland but they just need to get the little things right.

The hut circles which are easy to find and close to the main parking area at the South Stack are some of the best preserved I've seen and there are lots of them. They go on for quite a distance covering a pretty extensive area and it's fascinating to read about the history. A visit here can easily be combined with a trip to the South Stack.

Wear good shoes for great view of the local birds. It’s a bit smelly but that what happens with lots of birds in one area.

    Have changes for parking.

Beautiful old church. We were lucky enough to be there on a day when the choir was performing! There is a beautiful pipe organ, some gorgeous stained glass windows. Even a narrow opening called the lepers' window so lepers could stand outside and hear the church service. Wow!

It was very breezy when we visited. The late afternoon sunshine was going down, giving the little cove a gorgeous hue with the light on the breaking waves.
The cove had limited parking, which was not a concern as there were only a few people there. This is a popular place especially when the weather is good.
