What travelers are saying
- Thomas P6 contributionsWe went to Norwich market today and went to explore. Impressed with the market and the food options. The only problem was a few of the Market Stalls were shut. The drink options were fabulous. Glad to see places like that still Open.Written August 16, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Flyer8249588 contributionsAbsolutely wonderful member of staff Shannon. I went to click and collect this afternoon and was helped with Shannon a smiling staff member. Nothing was to much trouble. - Peter RDartford, UK1,239 contributionsBeautiful ornate art nouveau arcade similar in style to many found in London. Definitely worth a visit but sad that so many shops are vacant.Written February 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Fiona D2 contributionsA fun escape room - based on quite a bit of puzzle work. It's cosy! We were a group of 6 and there wasn't lots of room. The staff were lovely. Parking is horrendous so leave plenty of time to park. It's quite dark in the room so we struggled with the padlocks etc - so a little torch would be really helpful. We did it but not without a few clues!Written November 27, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Tom JLondon, UK1,622 contributionsGreat shopping when you need to pick up a variety of things or quite simply need some inspiration. Plenty of options of places to sit and grab a coffee if a rest is needed amongst the multi floors of shops.
The shopping centre is well located in Norwich with plenty of other shops around but having all the options they have under the one roof is an easy experience.
Can get busy around peak times as to be expected.Written January 2, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. As you would expect the gallery was quiet, but that gave us the opportunity to linger over an excellent exhibition containing some great stuff; some amusing, some weird - congratulations to the curator. The exhibition closes January 5; it’s well worth going if you can make it.Written December 27, 2013This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ruth B3 contributionsBeautiful and atmospheric art gallery; two rooms: one large opening onto a lovely courtyard, excellent card & gift shop. Some very high quality paintings on display.
Cafe is under separate management, but interconnected for refreshments and lovely atmosphere too.Written August 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Definitely worth a visit.Written September 3, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Edmund RSt. Andrews, UK1,335 contributionsWhen we visited the gallery they had a special exhibition of works by Anthony George. These are abstract very geometric works which, if I'm honest, are not the type of art I like at all. A rectangle with a square cut out and moved sideways, painted in a different colour, does nothing for me. Interesting to see, none the less, and there is another room with traditional paintings, many of which were, in my opinion, very beautiful. The lady was knowledgeable and interesting to chat to. Well worth a visit even it the artist on display is not painting in a style you can appreciate.Written September 25, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - amandalovesfunTexas1 contributionTwo words, bloody amazing. I can say no more. Works can not describe the beautiful pieces that engulfed my every sense of being. My most memorable moment must have been when my darling husband looked deep into my eyes and said..."you look like a nip". Totally smitten.Written June 14, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- KhunantLondon, UK317 contributionsJust dropped by Fairhurst as I do when I am in Norwich and was pleased to see that the gallery has been completely transformed and given a new lease of life by the relatively new (young) owners, Tom and Dulcie.
But that's only one reason for this review. The other is that they have a very fine exhibition on at present by a contemporary artist, John Midgley. The works are refreshing, beautifully painted and IMHO, very conservatively priced.
If you are visiting Norwich, do pop into Fairhurst. Its friendly, cosy and you never know what you'll see there.Written May 1, 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It used to be brilliant but we went last night and it wasn’t good at all. There were only two vendors serving even though the vendors are pushed relentlessly on their social media channels. We went for Wheely Good Pasta and Nanny Bills but no Wheely Good Pasta and no mention of this on the website or social media. Nanny Bill’s was really good although lukewarm.
The whole place lacked any sort of festive atmosphere. It was all a bit glum. They clearly have a really good social media team but this doesn’t translate to the actual experience. They need to be more honest about which vendors are there because it was very disappointing.Written December 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. With family visiting, we took them to the museum. The venue is stunning, and we found two Buddhas in cast brass that were so finely detailed and stylish we bought them both, as well as two cushion covers.
With a background of extensive business trips to south-east Asia, I found the museum displays fascinating; the staff were as knowledgeable as they were helpful. The layout encourages wandering around to read all the informative display data, with prices on the sale items very attractive for the quality of the artefacts. Add in the nearby parking at The Forum multi-storey car park and we can see further visits will be needed to keep up with display changes. Buying there has the added bonus of supporting the museum.Written February 14, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The staff are knowledgeable - many are ceramic artists themselves - and I love the range of artists and styles on offer. Two of my favourite potters are a permanent fixture; Matt Horne and Phil Arthur. However, the last time I went I was a bit brassic and bought a wonderful piece by an amateur who rents a space upstairs. Quite simply, I'm very hard-pushed to ever come out empty handed, but not due to any hard sales techniques. It is simply a very engaging selection.Written March 3, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- futtock21London, UK11,621 contributionsI remember first visiting this gallery in its former venue in the Tombland district. It was in an atmospheric late medieval half-timbered building with slightly spooky alcoves. It exhibited mainly modern British art, featuring the art of some of the established greats such as Terry Frost and Roger Hilton alongside lesser-known artists such as Reg Gammon and rising young star Alec Cumming. Since then it's moved to equally atmospheric premises within the refurbished Old Skating Rink in Bethel Street. However it sits in a what seems like a rather small corner in a much larger building. There was no-one attending it when I visited. The exhibition I saw seemed to reflect the owner's interest in Indian art. Some interesting stuff, but I was rather disappointed to note that what had been such a splendid selection of British art had been reduced to just two recent Alec Cummngs.Written November 20, 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
