What an amazing place! John Moores painting prize was fantastic. Really strong selection of paintings this year. Would recommend. Visited as a family on a weekend away in Liverpool - greeted by an amazing team - all of the reception staff & especially Leo!

Loved the Victoria’s Secret, Kenji and Lego shops. Nothing too expensive and very nice clean shops that weren’t too busy. The Lego one was interesting and had a little area where you can build your own Lego. The Kenji shop wasn’t too expensive I got a T-shirt, a really nice note book and 3 axolotl pin badges as well as a little key ring that lights up all for £16.50. And from Victorias Secret I spent £100 and got a free tote bag that was actually worth £50 which was really good as well :)

    What is Tate Liverpool?

Tate Liverpool is an art gallery that is located in the heart of Liverpool. They holds a number of exhibitions, festivals and displays that take place throughout the year.

    Exhibitions

JMW Turner with Lamin Fofana: Dark Waters

This exhibition presents JMW Turner’s work in a new immersive way with music created by Lamin Fofana.

Turners artwork is truly incredible in transporting us to the seas. It features beautiful details of ships and beautiful landscapes. In addition, the music brings the works to life and adds a sprinkle of magic.

It was also relatable to the issues that they represented and this included the power and politics of the ocean. They also focused on the dangers of the waters around the British Coast. This was done with simplicity and style.

However most of the artwork were of ships and boats. I would have loved to see some variety in the works such as including people or conveying their body language in the artworks. It would also have been more engaging if there was some video footage or an interactive element included too.

    Ideas Depot

The Ideas Depot is a dynamic collection of artwork that is chosen with primary school children that is designed to be enjoyed by everyone no matter what their age is.

This was one of the highlights of the visit as it had an eclectic collection of artwork that was unique and eye-catching. Some used everyday kitchen utensils to create a piece of art that was exciting.

Some of the artwork that caught my eye were a camera that took the same scene in different angles, a staircase that was quirky and more. It was engaging and it makes you appreciate art in new ways.

    The Liverpool Biennial

It was the biggest collection of artwork where it is created using objects that you use on a regular basis. Some that stood out and were intriguing was a chair made out of beads and a piece that was made out of cuscus. Incredible. It is contemporary art at its best and it uses your imagination in mindboggling ways.

    Entry and Pricing

Entry to the collections at Tate Liverpool is free of charge. In relation to the special exhibitions then you are required to book a timed slot ticket and pay online. For further details then check out the Tate Liverpool website.

    Facilities

Tate Liverpool has a café that serves a selection of sandwiches and hot meals. They also offer hot and cold drinks too. It is on the pricey side. An alternative is the food and drink vans near the Docks to which you can sit down to eat whilst enjoying the views.

    Toilets are on site.

    Lighting and Access

Lighting at the JMW Turner Exhibition was OK but was not great as some aspects were done in dim lighting. Despite this we overcome the challenge to the best of my ability. The lighting in the collections was decent and I could see most of the artwork which helped me to enjoy my experience here.

In relation to access at Tate Liverpool there are stairs and lifts to all floors so if you have mobility issues then use the lifts as it would be easier to navigate.

    Parking

Tate Liverpool does not have its own designated car park however there is plenty of pay and display parking near the Docks and Museum. Payment is required even if you have a Blue Badge.

If you love contemporary art that is engaging and fun that plays with your mind and senses then Tate Liverpool is the place for you.

A gem of an art gallery, particularly as the paintings are displayed in their original locations. The staff were all totally welcoming, helpful and informative. The lady in the cafe was superb; the soup delicious. A range of activities for young children and a large lift to the first floor. Clean toilets. The house obviously needs work to bring it back to its former glory - but as a place to visit for free, we couldn’t fault it and the warm atmosphere created there.

No exhibits on this visit so was a simple bite and a coffee. Both very good. Nice and busy and think the remodelling of the cafe has helped. It is a great place to visit and relax

Visited this venue for a concert by Tangerine Dream in March 2022. an unusual building, looking a bit shabby outside with signs in a font not unlike the sort you get at the entrance to some Parisian Metro stations...The concert venue is up a flight of stairs [don't know if there is lift access for the disabled or not] Inside its a large circular auditorium with a domed ceiling and a mahoosive pipe organ staring at you from the stage...altho there is an balcony, for this gig it was standing. Two bars located each side dispense drinks in the dreaded plastic pint pots [for safety] The floor was quite sticky when i visited, which added to the eccentricity of the place...a bonus was the hotel id booked was a 5 min walk away from the venue, and opposite Lime St Station {Holiday Inn Central} which was ideal for my needs.

Brilliant treasure trove! I'm not fond of the whole baltic area, it's geared more towards students and out of towners, not really good for public transport and prices are dear compared to the rest of Lpool. However I'd make the journey here to come back to this fabulous market. I love the fact that there's second hand and new stuff and some of the items are sold for charity. Great if you want to get a fun birthday card or cute jewellery, or find a nice old fashioned ornament. I'd go more often if the bus dropped me nearer! Prices are good too, cheaper than the second hand shops in Lark Lane. A must for all collectors and people who love retro stuff.

tucked away in the middle of the pedestrian area of Liverpool is this little gem of a shop selling all manner of hand-made local crafts. There were so very many things I wanted to buy! Limited by luggage space....Definitely stop in if you are looking for some fine pieces to buy for yourself. Also good for cards etc as smaller gifts.

The pictures above are old pictures, the market was moved to gated premises over the road. Still a great market, selling everything, worth the visit.

I have to recommend this store and especially one of the members of staff as she is absolutely incredible. The customer service, helpfulness, product knowledge of Jaki, blew me away. My whole experience of shopping in this store on Saturday was truly amazing from start to finish. I have been in the store several times before and the staff have always been friendly and helpful. But this time I have to say the service I received was exceptional. Thank you 🌟

We were greeted at the door by one of the staff members Ian. He spoke to us in depth about the store and the products and ended up giving us a tour of the place. He took us round the spa area as well which led to us booking an appointment. Amazing store and Ian was great to talk to and made my girlfriend’s day.
