What travelers are saying
- John SMoravia, Costa Rica34 contributionsI was greatly surprised to find amazing people and really warm people in this town, they are really nice to the visitors.
I know the program says I was there in last year, but I went to this town for almost a year in 2000 with another 15 friends we rented a house at one of the ends of this town, and we loved it.

The view from the old watch tower is amazing, though climbing up the old stairs is a bit of an adventure. You learn about clothing, food production old history and times of war.
Worth a visit.Written September 6, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. So off we went down the route 7 visit the battlefield live. Top tip, come off at the Seesen exit and head south on the B248 towards Northeim. You can't miss the site, its signposted and visible about 10km roughly from the motorway.
Parking is free and accessible to all including families with buggy's or visitors with wheelchairs. Has a small visitors centre with toilets and a few Roman/Germanic exhibits. Staff really friendly and on side, coffee and biscuits available for a small donation. The info boards are in German and English and very informative. Dogs also welcome but on leads.
The battlefield walk is very well planned but unfortunately not good going for wheel chair users, their is a small incline heading westwards which is cheeky if your are not slightly fit. Sturdy footwear is strongly advisable depending on the weather. The battlefield can be visited as part of a guided tour which is strongly advisable ( start at 1000,1200 and 1400) however you can visit on your own and read the informative information boards in English and German. The complete walk along the old battlefield and back is 1.8km long or just over a mile for those with Angle Saxon decent.
Flyers available in German, English and French. Activities also available for kids. A must for history fans but not too clever if your taking a partner on a date. Enjoy, we did.
