- Wood77Los Angeles, CA3,508 contributionsLucerne’s Mt Pilates is 7000 feet tall. We took the cogwheel railway up to the summit. The gradient of around 48 percent is supposedly the steepest cogwheel railway in the world. The ride took around half an hour. We passed alpine meadow, clouds, tree line, striking rock formations, then reached a rather barren summit. From various observation areas, you can see the Swiss Alps. Though Lucerne was below, the dense cloud cover prevented us seeing it. There were restaurants and souvenirs shops. The summit has the shape of a face. There are paths that take you up higher to the chin and to the nose. Unfortunately the video about Mt Pilates was closed that day. The shape of the building and the gondola station looked like it was from James Bond’s 1969 film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” However looking it up on the internet indicates that this wasn’t the mountain.Written November 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - mercedcampgirlOrange, CA1,006 contributionsThis simple excursion was a trip highlight during our 2 week Switzerland trip, and we saw some amazing sights. We took a city bus (#1) from Lucerne near the Chapel Bridge through town to the Kriens stop and followed the signs to the Sonnenberg funicular. Hans, the friendliest person we met in Switzerland, spoke no English but sold us our tickets and indicated there would be a slight delay. He took our picture and we took his.
We loved the slow, clickety-clack ride up on the 100 year old little train...lots of foliage and a great view of Lucerne, the distant lake, the nearby mountains and the beautiful surrounding countryside. Reaching the top, we ran into schoolchildren on a field trip. They asked us to take their group photo by gesturing, as we could not understand their Swiss-German, although one yelled, "Have a nice day!" as we walked away. They were so cute! We then hiked through some farmland listening to cow bells and taking great photos of Swiss cows munching grass.
We came to a red bench under some trees and ate our picnic lunch. No one in sight anywhere, just a great view and the sound of cow bells. (Please see photos and video.) It was wonderful!Written September 18, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Sitting in the pews and listening to classical music from a live orchestra was serene and an unexpected pleasure. I can’t say the orchestra will be there on your visit but we definitely got lucky. We were there on a Saturday morning so it might be a regular thing.Written May 27, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Timothy BLucerne, Switzerland620 contributionsThe Parkbad Kleinfeld in Kriens, is a revamped outdoor swimming park. Out of sesaon it is a public park and in summer sesaon (May to September) it has three pools open to the paying public ( 7chf for adults and 4 chf for children). Set in a park with lying at the foot of mount Pilatus is a 50 meter swimming pool, a natural pool (no clorien) divided into two parts, 5 meter diving pool and a childrens' 'water park. In addition there is a large sports field, beach-volley ball, table-tennis and plenty of green space and trees to lie down. I have been coming here for years and find it a very civilised way to rest and go swimming (accept Sundays and public holidays when it is full)Written June 9, 2014This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - incahuecaGeneva, Switzerland365 contributionsThis museum is located in a nice park out of Lucerne, at Kriens. It is small and the opening hours are very reduced (14 to 17:00 except on Sunday from 11 to 17:00). This is why I find the entrance fee CHF 10 to high for the little it offers to visiors.
So, do not bother taking time to get to Kriens for visiting this little museum : better spend more time in Lucerne instead.Written August 31, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Thomas KPhiladelphia109 contributionsWe had a great experience with Marco at Schnauserei (via Traveling Spoon). His pre-arrival outreach was good. We (two of us with three nieces ages 19-24) all had a great time with him, He was funny and made sure that everyone had hands-on roles with the prep, cooking, and even some of the cleaning. The food was delicious and it was nice to get something that was truly local cuisine. When we come back through Lucerne, we'll definitely do this again.
