What travelers are saying
- Hihono38 contributionsGreat museum with excellent displays--many displays have English text. Our phones did not work with the English audio guide. Also has a very large nice park complex --it must have a good floral display in spring and autumn leaf display.Written September 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 219kensf161 contributionsThe Kawamura Kinen Museum is a museum with a large, beautiful garden. I went there to see an exhibition featuring photographs of Japanese people, taken by a british photographer over 150 years ago. The pictures were really clear, so I really enjoyed it. It was like I could hear the voices of the samurai in the pictures.
The museum also had an exhibition of famous paintings from artists like Magritte, Chagall, Rothko, as well as many other Japanese and non-Japanese artists. Those artists are on parmanent display, so you can see their works any day except Monday.
Walking on a pathway in the garden was also really nice and relaxing. Although the museum is located in a really rural area, it's worth visiting.Written October 10, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We came by car and there was a new parking space at the back.Written April 15, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Raimop833 contributionsLived close to the spot for several years and visited there often. Many events throughout the year: the tulip festival and the Sakura fireworks festival and the cosmos (flower) event are the most famous ones. There's also a Dutch windmill because of Sakura city's Dutch relations. Nice place to visit, but not much to do outside the events. Also the view to the Inbanuma lake is beautiful.Written March 26, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- roy vTraralgon, Australia4,822 contributionsWe spent a bit of time here and bought lunch from one of the food vendors there on the day.
We then did what the Japanese have been doing for century's we sat under the Cherry blossom and had a picnic like hundreds of others were. It was a bit unreal but soo peacefull even though the place was full.how marvellous that people of vision planted all these Cherry Trees generation ago .
Their are a couple of nice statues near the entry of the American and Japanese guy who worked out and signed the agreement for Japan to open her doors and start trading with America , have a look and read the history of it. Very nice place to go and relax .Written April 6, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We had a great time. The fresh shiitake mushrooms were really delicious, all you need is some salt.
We also bought a veggie tray, meat, and drinks at the shop and we had a great meal.Written October 28, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Yes, cherry blossoms are not the only highlight of spring in this country but other flowers too. Like tulips.
The 2 hour train ride from Shinjuku to the flower festival is totally worth it. I suggest renting a bike at the tourism center located near the Keisei-Sakura station. It costs around ¥500 for the whole day. It takes about 10 minutes to get to the site. You know that you have arrived if you see a bridge, a wide river and a windmill. Walk around the vast plantation enjoying the different variety of tulips. Food and refreshments are available at the event as well. If you’re done with the flower tour, I highly recommend riding your bike to the farmlands to enjoy the fresh country side. The ride back will be a little bit longer but more fantastic!Written April 16, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It wanders off through the beautifull bamboo forest down hill and joins up with a normal residential road at the bottom. You can then turn right and it takes you to the road heading to the old Castle site and the history museum.
It was nice to walk under the shade of the towering bamboo and let the imagination run wild, how much Samurai history this road could talk about, no doubt we were walking in many a great warriors footsteps. It is only a few minutes walk so do it and enjoy , we did .Written April 6, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Raimop833 contributionsMakata jinja is a nice old shrine. Very popular spot for local hatsumode (first shrine visit of the year). You can buy fortune amulets (omamori) from the shop also. In the back, there is a big tree, which is over 800 years old.Written March 26, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
