- baroomMississauga, Canada3,238 contributionsAfter an al fresco breakfast with family friends at Lawa Cafe, Caleruega was our next stop. Our friends have been to Caleruega a few times but this was my family's first ever visit. For a popular wedding venue and tourist destination, the access road leading to this place was unpaved and very rough. At the entrance, we stopped to pay both parking fee (P40) and entrance fee (P30/person) while the guard gave us purple wristbands to wear while in the premises.
Our rental van driver let us off at the side entrance which was on the left side of the Transfiguration Chapel. We saw there was a midmorning wedding about to take place so we only took a quick peek inside. Outside the chapel, we went down the Dominican Steps and unexpectedly gave ourselves a good stair workout. We spent the next two hours exploring Caleruega's beautiful grounds. We took photos everywhere... the cauldron or "kawa" water fountain, walkways above the koi fish ponds, hanging bridge, Tent Chapel... We even saw a bunch of creatures I don't remember seeing before such as Philippine dragon flying lizard or "hambubukag," cicada and red maya. A tame mutt dog also followed us as we rested in the Tent Chapel. We did not encounter a lot of other visitors during this Monday visit. Except for the wedding party back at the Transfiguration Chapel, our photos had no errant strangers in them.
Do wear comfortable shoes and expect to do a lot of walking and stair climbing while in Caleruega. Lots of bloodthirsty mosquitoes around so either cover up or apply insect repellant to avoid being feasted on. Washroom fee costs P10/person.Written September 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We noticed very few trees along the trail leading up to the summit. It was very hot. The trail is very narrow with no barriers on either side for protection and can be slippery. You can run the risk of falling off the cliff if you are not careful. So, always exercise caution, ask questions and listen to your tour guide.
At the base of the summit you need to scale/rappel the final portion of the trail using a rope. It took us approximately 6-7 hours to get to the summit from the jump off point and back.

If you have a family party of more than 5 people, it is preferable to book a day before your trip to guarantee a spot on the boat.
The waves are rough but my family are still game for swimming and snorkeling.
From the beach, a little hike will take you to the Greek ruins. The island was definitely a great site for photos and they have a nice breathtaking view of the ocean.
We were lucky that we almost had the island to ourselves.Written March 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This was my first hiking experience, so this is my mother mountain.
Try their local halo halo once you get to the summit.Written November 1, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is not much to see aside from the tunnel. If you are looking for a nice view, i suggest you go to nearby beach after the tunnel and i am sure you will enjoy the view and the beach.Written July 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lianne Joy M15 contributionsmy title said it all..went for an ocular visit and left disappointed
had to enter via an ongoing construction site
'cottages' were all done using native material
maybe just go there for a day trip during week days and bring everything that you'll need for the day as entrance to the beach is free (public beach)
overnight cottages there ranged at P7000 with 2 beds and roll away mattresses; in short just head on to another cove and forget about this one if you want to stay overnight..really! as in!!! realllyyyyy!!Written May 23, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
