Villecroze's troglodytic vestige is cozily settled in the heart of a sunny cliff made of tuff. Occupied since prehistory, it successively belonged to Benedictines monks, to the local Lord (who fortified it) and eventually to the Municipality. You will discover, over 5 levels, mullioned windows, arrow-loops, a passage behind the waterfall, small water basins with nice and generous concretions, stalactites up to columns and unique tuff lacy frames. Due to their historical and geological significance, the caves were classified in 1924 as "Artistic Monuments".

Encouraged by excellent reviews, we came to visit. Outside it is beautiful: the gardens are pretty, there is a spectacular waterfall and the external appearance of staircases, openings and windows fashioned into the hillside is very impressive. Although the modern house atop it all is...More

We visited the caves almost as soon as we arrived in Villecroze and were definitely not disappointed! When you enter the park there is loads to see and a playground for children. After exploring the gardens we went up to the caves (quite a few...More

The grottes just outside Villecroze are amazing. They are caves in the mountain side in 5 stores, and to walk up along the side of the mountain is interesting and fun. Further there is a fine park in front. Even a small playground for children...More

The Villecroze caves are split over 5 levels and about 6 different cave rooms to view. A great place to take the kids as the caves are situated within a park which also has a waterfall, beautiful gardens and a children's play are.

Well worth the visit. Need to wear sensible footware. Some steep steps. Free car park close by. Being the summer waterfall did lack flow. A walk round old village narrow slope streets also worth while. Picturesque.

We took our four children under 8 here. It cost 8 euros for a tour in mid August. The place, outside was amazing and very beautiful. The inside was lovely and well left alone to history. The only down side is that my tour guide...More

So beautiful. Part untouched nature part well kept flower garden. Go on an adventure into the old christian grottos and imagine how they lived here when in hiding. Really cheap. Afterwards take a while to sit under the big three in the garden and enjoy...More

As long as you are fit enough to squeeze through narrow passages and climb steps, this is well worth the visit and the 8 euros entry. The views from up there are marvellous.

We started our day at the market in Aups, which was great. From there we drove to a gorgeous medieval village called Tourtour, and then on to Villecroze. As luck would have it, there was a summer storm, and it was really pouring down. If...More
