Brighton Beach is one of Melbourne's best-loved beaches. Because it's a Bay beach, the water is rarely rough. The sandy beach is good for a picnic. Many visitors come here to see the bathing boxes. The bathing boxes are brightly coloured, and local families use the bathing boxes to change into their bathers and store their clothes. Owning a bathing box is a mark of social esteem, the boxes change hands for substantial amounts.

We came in the hottest day on Dec 14. Beautiful beaches with unique decorated huts along the beach. You can take a nice picture la and the beach is clean and crowded. Lots of flies which I don’t really like. Nothing you can expect like food or drinks on sell there.. BYO!

The beach is fairly standard and typical of the beaches along this stretch of the bay but its feature is the iconic Victorian era beach boxes that date back to the 1860's where modesty dictated different swim-wear standards and modesty of today. They are colourful and worthy of a visit.

Brighton Beach is very nice beach, it is one of the best bay beaches. The surf is rarely threatening. The beach is best known for the bathing boxes. The boxes are brightly decorated, and are often handed down from generation to generation. The boxes often form a backdrop for people visiting the beach.

Sandown Street Beach is nestled between Elwood Beach and the Middle Brighton Baths. It was a fabulous place to take my dogs out for a walk amongst the surf and sand on a sunny day, the Melbourne CBD just a pretty sight.
There are many boats in the dock opposite.

The beach itself is simply beautiful, and the addition of the bathing boxes lined up along the beach makes the landscape all the more attractive. The water seemed quite clean, great for a swim, and with a nice view of Melbourne in the distance.

The beach houses look extreme good in photos and it is mesmerizing when you see these from distance. But when you actually reach there you might ask yourself - what's so fascinating about this? Beach is pristine and it's lovely to have a swim. It's only about 40 minutes by train from Flinder street station (main train station in Melbourne). So if you have couple of spare hours, why not to capture some photos!

Attractive area, made especially so with the brightly coloured sheds along the beach. The sand is a little coarse along the vast expanse of the bay. One's length of stay dependent on weather!

Brighton Beach is one of the best and most popular beaches on Port Philip Bay. The beach is divided into several areas. The water is calm and the sand is fine and white. It's a great place for a swim on a hot day. One of the best-known features of Brighton Beach are the colorful bathing boxes. The are often handed down from generation to generation, and often change hands for large amounts.

I found food truck there. But just about 2 trucks.
I have not seen much review on the food near Brighton Boxes, we are a family of 3 travelling with a 2 yo girl. We need to have access to a few small meals with the little girl, are there restaurants near the beach? Or we would have to bring our own pack lunch for a day trip?
Thanks!

The Esplanade Hotel is right on the sea , near the jetty - great food.
Lots of eating places on Jetty road (including a nice bakery ) - you will have no problem finding somewhere to eat .

Hi guys, need abit of advice as I will be bringing my elderly father to see the bathing boxes. I have seen reviews that alighting from middle Brighton stn is nearer for the walking distance. As my dad is very slow in walking thus I would like to check if alighting at Brighton beach stn would be more convenient?
I am okay with taking a cab from middle Brighton stn too but am not very sure if cabs are readily available on the way back as well. Appreciate your kind advices or suggestions.

Get a taxi or an uber. There's no way he would be wanting to walk there, let alone walk back.
