The church is beautiful with a very bloody history. Ivan the Terribles youngest son was murdered in the church. Has his coffin. Beautiful frescoes.

This is a charming church both inside and out. Learn the history, walk the outside and go in to enjoy the religious art inside: it is beautiful!

On the place where this Church was build, Dimitry, the sun of Ivan the Terrible, was assassinated. The frescoes inside tell the story.

Fittingly, the Church of St. Dmitri of the Blood was constructed using bright red brick. It was built on the very spot where the child prince had been murdered by the man who wanted to be Tsar. This scene is portrayed on the church walls...More

The red brick church with blue domes has been built to remember Ivan the Terrible's son Demitry who was murdered here. You are allowed to take pictures inside by paying a charge. Nice to hear the story behind while you visit this place. Recommended.

The church is well preserved the colors are bright, be sure to check out the inside. The church was built to remember Ivan the Terrible's son Demitry who was murdered.

... at the Bolschoi this site was an important add on for my history understanding. Just look more closely at the large painting, opposite the Ikonastase, to see the sequence of events, showing the "murdering" of Dimitrij.
