About
Discover Blair Castle and go on a journey into the fascinating past of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. Unique amongst Scottish castles, the story here leads you from Mary Queen of Scot's visit to the Civil War, and from the Jacobite cause to Queen Victoria's famous stay which led to the creation of Europe's only surviving private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Over 700 years of Scottish history are on display across 30 rooms. Highlights of the castle tour include the Baronial Entrance Hall, featuring weapons used at the Battle of Culloden; the classic Georgian styling of the Picture Staircase; the grandeur of the State Dining Room and Drawing Room; and the magnificent Ballroom, bedecked in hundreds of antlers. The Castle sits at the hub of a breathtaking historic landscape and the gardens and grounds feature a 9 acre walled garden, a peaceful wooded grove, a ruined kirk, a red deer park and a whimsical Gothic folly.

Sunday morning stroll
Oct 2021 • Family
Part of the deal when you book into the chalets in Blair Castle grounds is free admission to the castle and grounds.

What a beautiful setting for a Sunday morning stroll. Our four year old grandson had a great time doing a Halloween themed treasure hunt in a wooded section of the grounds. Lots of ghosts, spiders, bats and a skeleton to be found. Brides Kirk in this section of the woods was very interesting. On the way back to the castle, we saw a field with a lot of deer grazing close to the castle.

The exterior of the castle is very impressive ( we didn't go inside on this occasion but have on a previous visit and it is equally impressive)

A great way to spend a couple of hours on a nice autumn morning.

Lovely
Oct 2021
The castle is very good to go around, easy not navigate and has plenty of information to hand all about the place.
Staff are fantastic. Very helpful, informative and obviously love what they do.
The Hercules Gardens and the trails are clearly marked out and are lovely for a stroll in and around.
Scenery is stunning.
Worth every penny of the admission fee
Would go again, especially to see the garden when in full bloom

Pipe band and militia
Oct 2021
Very interesting short unaccompanied short tour of part of this ancient castle, full of some ancient artefacts, and more modern art work. Delighted when I was in time to witness the pipe band, and the milia, for the 'Presenting of the Colours' ceremony. Loved it!

Give this place a miss …

This is not an ‘attraction’ but rather is a very disappointing and expensive experience. The staff were standoffish and unhelpful. The castle was tired and shabby. The grounds (or gardens as they would have it) were not worth seeing. Don’t waste your time and money here.

Ticks all the boxes

It’s got all you would expect from a stately home that’s been in existence for hundreds of years and is a joy to walk through and ponder on what may have happened in each room.

I would like to make a special mention regards the staff. Please make an effort to ask them something about the place as they are so keen to share their love of Blair Castle with you.
I’ve genuinely never met a group of staff who are so enthusiastic about their workplace :-) I learned more from them than reading any pamphlet or book. From how the title of duke was passed to a Civil engineer in South Africa to the visit of pop royalty- Tina Turner!
Thank you for a wonderful experience.

All about the gardens for me.

The castle itself was quite interesting g and really well preserved but the grounds are what will stay with me. The amazing trees In Diana's Grove and the immaculate hercules garden were stunning. Also, I've never seen so many red squirrels before!

Such a great Scottish Castle experience

What a splendid Castle experience!
So impressed with the amazing interior and the very personable and knowledgeable guides. Thanks particularly to Margaret and Mo. So passionate about their jobs, the Family, and where they work.
The Castle 'business' has such a great business attribute ranging from room hire for events, concerts, horse trials, scouts, hunting & fishing breaks on the extensive estate.
The Hercules garden was lovely, fascinating and pristine.
