Murton is the best preserved Swiss medieval city. It is especially amazing since the city walls and ramparts are pretty much intact. This is a must see for anyone.

There isn't a place to rate the charming town of Murten itself so I am posting to the City Wall posts. Murten is a lovely little town that should not be missed. There are beautiful historic buildings and an abundance of restaurants and shops. We...More

Easy to climb to the parapet on the top of the old city wall. There are great views of the town and surrounding area. Lots of history here. And there is no charge for walking on the old wall. Great for taking pictures.

We really enjoyed walking the city walls in Murten. The signs and historical information were helpful to understand the significance of this town, and the battle fought outside it. Very interesting walk.

The views from the walls are spectacular, and the site is absolute worth exploring. My kids loved the experience, climbing up different towers. One wonders what those walls have witnessed. Not to be missed.

Followed the self guided tour in Rick Steve's book which included the ramparts. It took about 2 hours for the entire walk with some steep stairs in the ramparts for great views of the landscape and lake.

The city walls were erected in the XII - XV centuries, and I would like to thank the city authorities for the excellent condition they contain. You can walk around these beautiful walls, imagining that you are walking in a medieval city.

A local colleague of my husband recommended this stop. Thank goodness he did! It was beautiful, authentic, and amazing history. You pay for parking, bring coins. But walking around the city and through the walls, were free. There was a cute little church, as well....More

There are no fees. Access to the city walls is at stairways in a couple of locations. I don't recall if it was ever closed. It is a nice walk on the upper part of the wall around part of the city, which is covered. The... More
