Coming from Australia, we went out to the falls expecting an easy walk up - boy were we wrong! there had been recent rain in the area and the track up got quite muddy in places. The sign at the bottom said about a 90...More

This will not be a quick stop – it’s a workout. The waterfall is visible from the main road, but its actually set back a ways, so the trail to get there is long. It will take you about 45 minutes to get to a...More

We did this hike as the first thing we did when we got to New Zealand. We definitely did not except to be so tired. We went to the halfway mark and the last half was pretty tiring but definitely worth it. Coming back down...More

The Wairere Falls walk starts off very nicely and becomes steeper and steeper as you go. There quite a few stairs as well. When you get to the viewing platform however, you get an amazing view which makes all the climbing worth it! If you...More

I crossed the island from Raglan to visit Wairere Falls. The drive was a really good way to see more countryside. The hike itself was the most challenging hike I did on my trip but getting to the top of the falls was worth every...More

As we approached, the tiny carpark was full and cars were parked down the track on its approach. A good sign. Perhaps the local authorities should take note and provide better facilities (BTW: DO NOT use the toilets on site unless you are absolutely desperate)...More

We did this walk on Easter Monday, and parking was at a premium. With the amount of cars parked down the road I thought it was going to be too busy to really enjoy but I was wrong - we noticed quite a few people...More

We saw the sign for Wairere Falls and thought why not? You can see it from the road and it does look spectacular. The sign says it takes 45 mins to the lookout and 90 mins if you want to go to the summit. There...More

As we didn’t have much time, we only went to the lookout point, halfway along the track, but even that part of the walk was worthwhile! The walk itself was brilliant, with stepping stones through streams and steps formed by tree roots. The lookout was...More

What a lovely walk and a fabulous view awaits those who reach the top plenty of places to paddle and cool down. Allow 45 mins to reach the first lookout and another 45 to climb to the top. It’s a well maintained and used path...More

The road to the car park is easy. Its a straight shoot there from Matamata. You could walk to it, but that would take some time.

We really enjoyed Opal Hot Springs camping area, it's not too far from the falls. The falls were amazing, definitely go to the very top if you can, the views are spectacular :)
