It's pretty cool to have a beach of clean, warm water as part of the Amazon system. The makeup of the beach changes during rainy season as the Amazon floods, so watch for that.

Warm water that is crystal clear like bath water! At low tide you can put into the ocean for at least a mile and the water is only waste high! Breathtaking!
This is good for a stroll along the epslanade along the front of Santarem - past the markets/shops and past the restuarants - just taking in the Amazon River - you keep thinking it is the sea!!! AMAZING!!!
The beach is beautiful and walking a little farher to the right end, away form the restaurants, there's a beautiful pond separated from the river by few meters of sand (they're probably connected during the rainy season, though).
