This is way off the road up a narrow lane - but worth the journey. The services are infrequent and 1662 prayer book. There is a great history here. Look inside the strange hut by the gate and be very surprised!

This must be one of the most special churches in Britain: at the end of a country lane, in the middle of nowhere, a beautiful Norman church, where the silence is almost audible. To judge from the visitors’ book, people come here from all over the world; and a big Thank-you is due to those who maintain the building and trustfully leave it open to us all.…

If you are interested in the architecture of churches this is well worth a visit. Above all this is a very spiritual, peaceful place for the worship of God. Very pleased to discover that the chapel is not an ancient relic but still has a living church community.

I have entered this church on several occasions as I live fairly near by and never cease to be amazed by its historic beauty and peaceful atmosphere. It exudes a sense of tranquility and awe. Situated in a remote rural setting, it is surrounded by trees and tradition Northumberland stone. It was built in the 12th century but restorations occurred in the 13th and 14th centuries and in later years. The apse is truly wonderful. One can see Norman and Anglo-Saxon contributions and as a whole it is an absolutely fascinating historic rural place of worship. It is most definitely finding and seeing if you are in vicinity of Alnwick, Chatton, Chillingham or thereabouts.…
