Best view, best art sculptures & best exercise in Tacloban, all for free.... The walk up Calvary Hill constantly provides special rewards. You do have to be any special religion to enjoy it. You can not cheat by taking a taxi or motor cycle, the only way to the top is through the giant stair climber which takes hours. The climb has both sunny and shaded sections with pleasant sculptures every 50 feet. When you get to the top you are rewarded with the most beautiful view in Tacloban and maybe even Leyte. Truly, you would not believe that dirty little Tacloban is so beautiful, but it is:):) You get to view the mountains and scenic bay, the church towers and the boats traveling the straits. It you got a little energy, this is a must see adventure. It is part spiritual, part scenic beauty, part artistic beauty and part athletic accomplishment..... have fun!!!!

Note: if you go on Easter Day, 10,000 people will being joining you, which makes it even more exciting...

If you're in for a nice, tranquil experience or a spiritual retreat in the middle of a bustling city, check out the stations of the cross. It's down the street of Avenida Veteranos. Just ask people in the area or a tricycle driver, mention the Stations of the Cross, and they'll helpfully point out the turn off Veteranos.

The short, uphill trek will afford you pretty views of the city and the bay. I bet it looks epic during sunset, too, which is already pretty spectacular from the downtown port.

As one reviewer previously said, this place needs a little more TLC. I saw and smelled (and had to dodge) several piles of dog poo. It ruins the ambiance a bit. A little upkeep would go a long way, because this place is a great find.

There were life-sized stations of the cross on the side of a hill. It's a strenuous hike but well worth it. Go all of the way to the top and walk around the ridge of the volcano. There's a photo stop at every turn.

This was a little climb all up hill. Very steep, but worth the trip. It is called Calvary Hill. We took pictures along the way of these life size statues. It also lacked a little care...grass needed clipping and sidewalks needed to be clear of dog pooh (which my foot found).

The place is called Calvary Hill in Sirin Bgy. You can easily walk there from the bustling city market down by the water. It is a steep climb to the top but if you take it slowly you should be OK. I went for the view... I was not disappointed. I was also alone there.

What i love about the stations of the cross is the big statue of Jesus looking out across Tacloban, like it is protecting it from harm (see photo). The way up has cemented stairs, so it's not too much effort going from station to station. The view from the top is really amazing.

Agree that it needs better upkeep.

If you ask a tricycle driver where Calvary Hill is they will know right away. We went on a normal day and it took about 45 minutes to walk through at a leisurely pace.

Without doubt my most favourite spot in Tacloban.

You can walk there very easily from the centre, maybe 10mins.
It's in Barangay Sirin. It's called Calvary Hill but most refer to it as the big jesus statue.
You have to walk through a residential area to get to the base of the hill form where you'll walk up steps to get to the top. Probably takes 10mins to walk to the top.

The views are sublime. Can see samar, the town, the sea.
Best time to go is sunset.
