About
The Monkey Forest is a 10-acre wildlife refuge situated in the natural oak forest of Moshav Yodfat. The Yodfat Monkey Forest has harbored a troop of squirrel monkeys since 1976, as well as rescuing and providing a life-long home for animals that have been subjected to deprivation or neglect. Our goal is to provide our animals a life of dignity and respect and instill a love of wildlife and nature in our visitors.

Nice but expensive
Mar 2021 • Family
Nice but expensive , ticket is expensive, and while in the forest they charge for everything, no food allowed unless you buy it in the kiosk, a good idea but the implementation to expensive for what you get

Entertaining and educational

I have known the place for many years and it keeps improving. A part of the forest had been devoted to the monkeys who live there and are well taken care of. One can purchase food especially suitable for the monkeys but you are not allowed to bring in food that is not supervised.
It's a lot of fun both for adults and for children.

Just getting better
Oct 2019
We arrived at Yodfat with one of our granddaughters planning on a short hike, but when we saw the sign of the monkey forest we opt to go there. We were there several years ago, and we loved the upgrade. The highlights are of course monkeys but there are many types of chicken, peacocks, birds and parrots, emu, ostrich, wild pig, alpaca, donkeys, pony horses, ibex and swans. The best are free squirrel monkeys you can feed, macaque and guenon monkeys that get food from visitors via feeding spots. Enjoyed it! The only caveat is the relative high price

Everyone loved it!

We went in May 2018, and it was so much fun! Our teenage daughters loved it, and so did we. The workers there were so friendly and welcoming. The animals were taken very good care of and happy. It was nice to get to interact with the animals, I loved that! I would love to go back. If I ever get to go to Israel again, I will definitely visit here again. I highly recommend to everyone.

Monkeys!!

What a nice little zoo. Everyone in our group loved feeding the monkeys! You are not allowed to feed them by hand or to let them, but they do come very close! If you are lucky, they will jump on your shoulder.
Very clean facility, although the terrain would be difficult for anyone with a disability.

A refreshing amusing experience for children and adults

Monkeys, especially free in nature, are not a common view in Israel. In fact, you can't see them at all in Israel free except in the Monkey Forest in Yodfat. Yodfat is the ancient Hebrew name of the last strongholds of the Jewish rebellion against the ancient empire of Rome. The Romans eventually destroyed the ancient town of Yodfat, and it was founded again as a beautiful village in modern Israel, about more than 1900 years after its destruction, right in the middle of the Galilee, very close to the ruins of the barrow of the ancient stronghold. So, visiting the Monkey Forest gives you an opportunity to see the relics of one of the biggest human dramas that happened in history.
The forest itself is lively and full of life. It is not very big, but rich with various species of small monkeys. That means you don't have to worry that a gorilla or a huge orangutan will bite your child or you. The little delicate monkeys have been trained to sit on your shoulder while you are feeding them. Don't bring food with you - their diet is special and their health is meticulously monitored. You can buy their special food at the entrance. Very nice for young children as well as for older children whom we have been told to call adults.

Lots of fun for everyone.

This place was so cool for everyone.
Outside of admission you can fee the moneys for 5 shekels less than $2. They will either eat out of your hand and or jump on you for the food.
It was a lot of fun and the kids were entertained for around 2 hrs of fun. No sales gimmicks here. All souvenirs were fair prices and from what I understand go to keep the animals fed and taken care of. This place should get some support if you are in the are.

it is nicely done, very simple, nice to see the animals roaming free, well not all of them, but it can be very nice for kids and also for adults, if you are there in Yodfat, go ahead and visit it.

Excellent adventure for the kids! Monkeys hopping right beside you, taking food and sometimes scurrying on your shoulders to get that treat. Our children were very excited.

Great meeting place for humans and animals
Nov 2017 • Solo
This is not a huge zoo where animals are just displayed for the amusement of people, but a place where the welfare of the animals has high priority and where we can be close to the animals. From looking at the enclosures it becomes clear that the manager puts a lot of thought and effort into making the life of the monkey in captivity as comfortable as possible. The enclosures are almost maize like with tunnels, corners etc. giving the monkeys an enriched environment to live in. I admire the bravery of the manager for trying to mix monkeys from different species and continents together to give them more space - and, it is working, they live together peacefully. The squirrel monkeys roam freely in the trees, are friendly and appreciate an occasional fruit treat from our hand. Some domestic/farm animals (e.g. turkey, chicken, rabbits, lama) also roam freely and make a relaxed and content impression. They have the possibility to either mix with us in areas accessible to humans or withdraw into private areas. In general, the place radiates a relaxed and peaceful energy. Along the path, there are several tables or stones to sit on, so take your time to take in the atmosphere and to observe the animals and their behaviour :)
So, I'd say, it is definitely worth a visit, especially with your children and it is great to know that by your entrance fee you contribute to this wonderful project :)
