Me and friend visited the fortress as part of Oleg tours. It was very muddy and as others have mentioned the surrounding area is quite ugly with an abandoned factory and Transnistrian army tanks. The old Soviet factory just outside the fortress was very interesting....More

One and only thing to see in Bendery. Surrounded by ugly soviet buildings, this Turkish castle stands lonely.

Visited this castle as a day tour from Chisniau to also include Transnistria a self proclaimed independent territory although not formally recognised by any other country other than Russia. Very good guide took us around the castle which is undergoing repair. It's not Caernarfon or...More

The fortress has special connections to Swedes which had the late King Charles XII which spend 2 years just outside the fortress waiting for the turks to fight the Russians together. This is described in the Museum inside the fortress. Thanks to Transnisria tours it...More

A fantastic way to understand a significant aspect of Moldova's history. There was an English guide and plenty of artifacts to see and touch. It was a hot day, but the indoor museum and inside the corner posts were like being in an air conditioning...More

Remarkably intact 16th century fortress overlooking the Dniester River. It was immense at one point--something like 80 hectares. Don't miss it

Splendid historical fortress .. partly renovated with a small museum and accessible viewing areas. No high tech interactive gizmos like in English museums so maybe a not suitable for children but for history buffs a great place to spend a couple of hours.

The fortress is fairly impressive and definitely a must-see if you go to Transnistria. The best way to sneak in is through the military base, by telling the guide you are going to see the church. From there it is a short walk to the...More

Just a must visit for any history buff. Located in Bendera, the second largest city of unique and lovely state of Transnistria. The history of this fortress is long and very interesting. Absolutely a place to see and study in Bendera.
