Founded in 1100, this historic church lies within the quiet parish of Old Malton and serves as a magnificent example of 12th century Romanesque architecture. St Mary's is the only surviving church of the Gilbertine Order that is still used for regular worship in England, and is a grade 1 listed building.

A lovely local church. All events we have attended have been very warming, children of all ages and all noise levels have always been welcome. The reverends I have met have been so nice. The church and surroundings are beautiful.

A lovely church to visit. Perfect destination for a sunny afternoon stroll. Set in some lovely grounds. The perfect venue for a wedding. Some of the tiles are lose inside the church so watch your step!

A real feeling of solitude and history but so much of the medieval priory is no more! Worth a visit but not a big detour.

Beautiful old monastic church, the ground s are now very small but well worth a visit as it is full of lovely features and unlike many of the larger churches that have become tourist attractions this church still has it's wonderful atmosphere. This was a...More

This Grade I listed church was begun in 1190 as the centre of a monastery for the Gilbertine order, now the only surviving remnant still in use. That it was very slow in building is demonstrated by the changes in style - 4 Norman pillars...More

St Mary's Priory is a rather grand and very interesting Norman church with design style more akin to some of the region's other Abbeys and Cathedrals as opposed to simple parish churches. There are lots of interesting features to discover and while some, such as...More

Drove to St Mary's Priory Church today 26th July 2016. A small concert of classical music in a church that seemed to pulsate with the music soaring to the very heights and depths of the old church. Packed with like-minded people enjoying listening to pieces...More

Returning from a less than perfect visit to Malton, which seemed to be in a permanent state of traffic chaos, we chanced upon the church and almost drove past, but thankfully we were able to park a couple of hundred yards down the road and...More

From the oustide this building looks to be more than it is. This is only part of what was originally a large complex and is now considerably smaller than it was. However, inside, there are some architectural gems - beautiful Norman arches etc. Well worth...More

We visited this small local church. It was quaint and well maintained. The adjoining cemetery is worth a wander. While most of the headstones are showing their age it is still interesting.
