This is a great place to spend a few days. The walks around the fortifications are interesting and very pretty. Lots of areas of wild flowers attract lovely butterflies and dragon flies. Great views across to the mountains. Very unique architecture and construction. The town itself has a great selection of bars and restaurants. Monday is market day in the Piazza Grande, it has a lovely atmosphere.

We visited Palmanova thinking to see a vibrant place, set into a peculiar shape born from the minds of Venetians' architects. We found a very town and an even more sad piazza: wayyyyyy too white and without palm trees. It's almost a ghost town. We realised that in the old days the square was livelier as more trees were around and they provided shadow and shelter in the central square. Now it's an empty space with nothing worth the attention. We also went to the Infopoint: nothing to see and/or do. TO SUM UP: Really sad. The architectural and historical beauty of its shape gets nullified by the lack of common sense in reshaping the square and the absence of tours that could explain a little bit more about the town. Frankly, not worth the visit if it's not a touch and go to some other destinations

We stopped in Palmanova on the way home from vacation. Easy and convenient access from the highway. There is not much to do in the city (one afternoon is enough) but one cannot avoid walk along these perfectly planned streets and drink coffee eating ice-cream on this shadow less square.

It wea really unexpected go see on googlemaps city like a star. So decided to visit Palmanova. Great place with interesting history. This fortress was seized only once. Still it was built at XV century.

Clean, wide streets, comfortable cafes ..a retreat for the churched out tourist. A map of this Venetian town is in the 04/2019 National Geographic special issue "Cities". The map looks like a piece of jewellery. A jewel of city planning from the 1590s.. I would like to have every modern town planner spend a week here and see what has stood the test of time.
