the central piazza of Palmanova reflects the shape of the town's fortress layout and is interesting for that as well as for its unusually large size, the water features in the centre, and its collection of interesting, attractive buildings and statues which all reflect its past role as important fortress town. It is certainly worth a visit if one is in Palmanova and is one of the key sights in town. The town itself is moderately interesting due to its history and layout as a fortress town and is worth a visit if one is in the area and has time. There are places to eat or relax around the piazza and there is a small tourist information centre just off it on a street. Our tour took a break at the piazza after an in- depth exploration of the fortress. We were fortunate to be there on a day when the market was in full swing, and what an interesting experience to have a chance to interact with the townsfolk on their terms. Please go to Palmonova to learn about the history and visit a UNESCO site from the ground up. You won't be disappointed …

While the town itself is interesting, the huge piazza in the very centre of the city is not much to see. It is massive but incredibly boring – useful for parades and marshalling military hardware. If you try to walk across the square on a summer day, you will rename it “The Devil’s Anvil”. There is not the slightest bit of shade or relief from the sun. Since there is nothing in the piazza itself, spend your time walking around the edge of the square to discover plenty of shops and restaurants.…

Palmanova is a very small town which has the most fascinating shape once shown from the bird's eye view. It's main 'piazza' is a very large and very simple spot surrounded by lots of small cafes and shops. We have visited it around noon so half of the places were closed however it is very friendly place which is not filled with tourists - it's calm and quiet. Really worth seeing.…
