We spent a 2 week holiday driving from Rovaniemi, Finland to Nordcap in Norway. I must say the sun was always shining during our entire trip in late July. We stopped for gas in a tiny little place called Kaamanen. They had a restaurant and a bar. And I bought some stamps at the little convenience store in the same parking lot as the gas station. It was such a lovely day that we decíded to buy a few items from the store and enjoy our picnic lunch beside the river. I think it was the Kaamanen River. While we were there, motor boats slowly drove past. They were fishing. I guess me and my husband looked like tourists because one of the boats came to shore and asked if we wanted to go on a private guided fishing trip. We were scepticle at first, because the man who offered to take us Finnish could not speak English really well. But the restaurant had an advertisement posted near the front door that mentioned that 'Kaamasen Kaira Nature Outfitters' offered day trips to small groups and families on the nearby river. I can highly recommend this small company. The Finnish man took us for a 4 hour boat ride and sighseeing trip. It was such a beautiful day. My husband caught a fish and I got a lovely suntan and took some great photos of nature and I saw a real live reindeer. The guide cooked us coffee on the beach and told us stories about reindeer and snowmobiling in the winter. It was so funny the way he tried so hard to speak English. But in all honesty, me and my husband had no problems whatsoever understanding the guide. The natural envirnoment was very different to where we live in the big city in Canada. Here is was so peaceful and big open spaces of forests and lakes. If you love nature and wildlife and sunshine and wish to learn a new language, I highly recommend you visit Kaamanen and Inari in Lapland. The locals were very helpful. I would have given this review 5 stars if only there were no mosquitoes. But they were too bad as long as you use insect repellant. Someday we hope to go back to Inari in the winter to experience the Northern lights.
