We drove up from New Plymouth (approx 60 mins) and loved this little spot. It was reasonably quiet and took us 10-15 minutes to walk down the beach and around to see the three sisters. The stone pillars themselves are beautiful but the beach itself...More

Take Clifton Rd off Highway 3 in Tongaporutu and continue down to the carpark. From there, it's a walk along the glittering black sand to the Three Sisters and Elephant Rock. Just make sure you keep track of the tides - the landforms are only...More

A beautiful stroll on the beach!! You want to go at low tide if you plan to see Elephant rock. The black sand sparkles and it is gorgeous!

After checking the tide times the night before, we had plenty of time to walk along the beach to the river mouth for a wonderful view of the Three Sisters rock formations. The walk took around 15 minutes and the sand was reasonably firm. There...More

Not only are the Three Sisters beautiful, the whole area is gorgeous. Make sure you plan accordingly, and go at low tide. Also, if you use google maps it will take you to someone's property which overlooks the three sisters. If you continue back to...More
