While at the Saqqara antiquities site we visited the Mastaba (Tomb) of Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep, after seeing the Djoser Step Pyramid. This mastaba is one of a number of tombs on the Saqqara plateau. Outwardly it appears as a mound of stones in the desert. But once inside there are marvelous hieroglyphs, paintings and carvings. So very well preserved. Fortunately we had a guide who explained to us the significance & importance of Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep's Mastaba.…

So glad to see the tomb again after so many (30) years. Very well preserved with plenty of colors depicting the deceased. Should be one of the highlights of the "private" tombs in Saqqara. A must for everybody.

I highly recommend engaging a private guide to show you around Saqqara. After walking through the columns entry, the Saqqara Pyramid is on your right, but walk straight ahead and then turn left, and you can (with a guide) visit some very colourful tombs.
