just like Kayangan Lake:
1. life vest is mandatory.
2. the main thing to see under water is rock formation, not fish life
unlike Kayangan Lake
1. it is 40+ steps (and not almost 400 steps) to access this lake

Barracuda is a unique, amazingly beautiful thermal lake formed in the crater of an ancient extinct volcano. Its water is replenished from several sources of salt and fresh water, and it does not mix. Up to a depth of 4 meters, the water is fresh, below it is salty. The temperature on the surface of the lake is approximately 30 degrees, at a depth of 40. Our guide told us there was a barracuda in the lake, hence its name. We didn't meet her during snorkeling. Swimming with a mask in the lake, I was very impressed by the rocks steeply drifting into the clear water, which is an unrealistically beautiful sight.

Super unique diving experience in a thermal hot springs. Temps were warm and reached 101 Fahrenheit. You can physically see the different temperature thermocline layers as you descend and ascend. We hit a max depth of 97 feet. Surprising to see how sea creatures have adapted to this warm environment.

Stopped as part of our ‘B’ tour and was not impressed. First off, too many people offloading on the docks and working there way up a crappy, slippery steps to jump in an ordinary lake that should be off limits to entry just to preserve its purity. Honestly, I don’t get it. Why this is a highlight is beyond me. The best part of this stop was watching the monkey eat the mangos - seriously.

Just a lake really, unless you’re free diving I’m not sure it’s a must do. Snorkeling there wasn’t great as it was very cloudy. It is pretty, it’s massive too.
I think my experience would be different if I was able to free dive and see what more the lake has to offer.
Very busy.

We got there before the crowds in the morning and it was breathtaking! We spent a bit of time snorkeling and admiring the rock formations. The lake is very deep but the water is warm. We got a private tour so we managed to arrive early in the morning and we had 20 minutes at the lake just by ourselves and after that the crowds arrived.

Baracuda lake is a unique dive famous for its thermocline, i.e., the water temperature varies at different layers and becomes warmer as you go deeper. It has a depth of about 40 m deep which makes it exciting since you can’t see what’s in the bottom. But around the sides, You can see sharp limestone cliffs under water. But certainly, no Baracudas, although there are rumors that a huge Baracuda skeleton was found in the lake.

This is a magical little spot that MUST be on your dive list during your time in Coron. Perfect for families. The diving is unlike any other dive spot I've ever seen! Thermoclines, solitary barracuda, other-worldly critters - it is mesmerizing.

Barracuda Lake no longer has any Barracuda so those of you afraid of swimming in water along with big fish that have teeth: forget it🙂
I scuba dived there as part of a dive package with a local dive centre and even though the is little to nothing to see: it is an interesting experience. The water is clear although not exactly 'crystal', full of small catfish and the odd shrimp, what is an experience is the variation in water temperature.
This is the first time in many years of diving where I have actually started sweating inside my mask as the water is places hits 40c plus then drops again to low 20s as you fin along. You can see the thermals throughout as you explore the area. You can see where the hot water comes in and forms 'streams' within water, a very interesting view as it looks like a mountain side with numerous streams of water flowing down the face, but you are actually surrounded by water.
If you are in Coron and feel like getting wet: Barracuda lake is well worth a visit.

I have visited the lake twice, one in the morning (around 9:30am), one in the afternoon (around 3:30pm). Go in the morning!!!! Less crowds and the whole area is sun-lit, you can see sun rays penetrating through the azure water and that is what this lake is all about. It was very dark and uninviting in the afternoon, even though the water still has amazing visibility.

what are some nice 4-5 star resorts close to the lake

Hi, there are hotels in Coron town (google Coron hotels) recommended by Agoda or Booking. From these 2 apps, you will see customer reviews and ratings, as well as hotel details, that will guide you in choosing a hotel. Coron town is the main island, from where all island tours begin.
You can also choose a tour operator, google (Coron tours), to facilitate your tour of Coron islands. I recommend Calamian tours, which offers a group tour, or a private tour. They have several tour packages of the islands in Coron. You can send them an inquiry (through their website), and they will give you a quote of the tour prices.
I hope this helps.
