- Alison YHervey Bay, Australia157 contributionsGreat view720+ steps but well worth the effort. We walked up for the sunset and definitely didn’t disappoint us. The view up the top is amazing :) Average fitness needed. The concrete steps are all in tack with steel rails either side so very safe. If you can and have the time while staying in Coron it’s a must do. EnjoyVisited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 24, 2024
- Shirley P15 contributionsWorth the Climb for the Views!Mt. Tapyas is a must-do for any visitor to Coron! The climb is definitely a workout, with 720 steps to the Coron sign and more to reach the top. It's best to do it in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat. There are shaded areas along the way to rest, and bringing a bottle of water is a must. But trust me, the effort is worth it! The 360-degree view from the top is absolutely breathtaking. You can see the beautiful turquoise waters, lush islands, and distant mountains - it's truly unforgettable. Tips: - Wear comfortable shoes! - Bring water, especially if you're going during the day. - Take your time and enjoy the views along the way. I recommend Mt. Tapyas to anyone visiting Coron. It's a challenging but rewarding climb with stunning views that are worth every step.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 29, 2024
- NeilOrange County, California42 contributions700 Steps Baby - You can do it!700 steps baby! You can do it!!! It's my first day in Coron, after getting settled in the hotel and catching a quick snooze, my tour guide popped in our hotel to take me sight seeing as well as to take me to the site's listed in my tour package itinerary. After hitting the souvenir shop and cashew stands, Mt. Tapyas was next in line. My guide Dennis pointed to the cross on top of the hill and told me "that is our next destination" as an avid hiker, I couldn't be more tickled to find out that Mt. Tapyas is the actuality of a stairmaster, my calves and bum will sure have a good work out! We arrived at the bottom of the hill, I thought he was climbing up with me but "nope" he mentioned a lame excuse such as his shin hurts yada-yada-yada lol... So solo up the stairs I go. At first I decided to sprint it, do some stair jogs to get to the top as quickly as possible, but then I looked behind me and saw the amazing vista of this island that I am just about to explore, so I decided take it easy, nice and slow until I found the right pace, stopping once in a while to take pictures of the magnificent views, the beautiful Coron! There are a few rest points where it offers different views for your enjoyment, if you are traveling alone like myself, a handy dandy selfie stick can help you get the job done of getting those amazing views with you in the scene! Just be persistent and keep it up! The rewards when you reach the top is a magnificent full view of the Island, it's breathtaking, a giant white metal Cross that you could see from almost any point of Coron sits in the middle atop this hill, if you walk a little behind the cross, you'll find a nice view of the hills and a little rest area to rest and catch your breath. When in Coron, this trek is a must!!!Visited December 2023Traveled soloWritten September 10, 2024
- Stacey V3 contributionsGreat workout with breath taking viewsI’ve been to Coron a few times and always climb Mt. Tapyas. I usually went in the morning before it got too hot. This time I went to watch the sunset. Such a different experience! The sunset was gorgeous! I wore my Apple Watch to assess my speed and heart rate. There’s approximately 720 steps. It took us about 19 minutes including a few stops to catch our breath.Visited January 2025Traveled with familyWritten January 19, 2025

The view from uphill is amazing - especially at sunset!
It’s a steep climb, but very much worth it. You have a great view of the bay and the town below.
Id recommend bringing along some drinks/snacks and sitting on the top of the hill to enjoy the sunset.

We counted 754 steps in total from the street at the bottom. 3 of us started out, but we had to leave our travelling companion at about the 400 step mark, as she could not make it any further. It is quite a steep climb. Well worth the effort, with great views from the top.
We walked from the Port of Colon, where our cruise ship was docked, into town and then up to Mt Tapyas. When we got back down to the street at the start of the Mt Tapyas climb there was a tricycle cruising around, so we caught that back to the port. He stated a fare of 40 pesos per person, which was cheaper than the fare quoted at the port to get to the Mt Tapyas hike. I gave him 150 for the 3 of us.

Make sure you bring a big bottle of water with you and you’re wearing comfortable shoes before you go up the steps. The view gets better and better as you go up. It is best to go there during sunset because it is so mesmerising to watch the sun goes down from the top of the stairs. There is nothing blocking the view of not just the sunset but the entire town. The view is definitely worth the 724 steps up

Getting to the top is very simple: you just go up 750 steps. For a foot person it is a piece of cake. For an average person it is very doable. For an overweight/unfit person it may need a couple of stops.
No matter your physical condition, it is totally worth it. We went a bit late as we were on a boat trip until 4:30 and missed the sunset, but it was still 100% worth the effort.

If you have a free evening in Coron, definitely climb to the top of Tapyas for a splendid sunset view. Going at sunset adds to the view and also means it isn’t as hot.
It’s easy in the sense that it’s just a long set of stairs, no rocks or scrambling - but there are 700ish of them so you have to be mobile. It can be done in flip flops but trainers are more comfortable.
It’s still a sweaty climb at sunset so bring water (or money to buy water)
To find the start, walk to Tapyas road/or ask a local. It’s hard to miss as many people are going up.

We didn't go during sunset times - where it is the most popular. We went in the morning around 9:30am and it was nice and quiet. The sun wasn't too bright and our photos look amazing. Didn't realise there are many trails that connect the top of Mt Tapyas to some other parts, would want to go back and do some hiking.

Attended here with my wife on the 14th of January around 9.20am. Both unfit at the time but still managed to get to the top with rest stops along the way. At the time the humidity was not to bad and there was a slight breeze going up also not alot of 'panget' loud and selfie selfie look at me tourists.
Well worth the hike for the views at the top. Not a race like other people have posted ohhhhh i did it in 10 minutes.......good for you.👏👏👏👏.
Take your time and enjoy the views halfway up. Also remember to bring water, mozzie repellant a hat and sundscreen.

As a fairly fit, solo travelling quinquagenarian, I managed the 700 plus steps (721), with but little more effort necessary than a broad smile.
Unless you are unusually unhealthy, you should have no problems ascending the summit, just give yourself sufficient time and enjoy the climb. And yes, the view at sunset is beautiful, especially when shared with that someone special.
Once at the top, there are other paths you can follow which lead off from the summit which, can extend your stay there considerably should you wish and have the time to spare.
Only a few negatives to note.
Lot's of very young and persistent vendors, mostly selling water or plain old tat (rubbish), plotted along the climb.
As the summit is crowned by a white Catholic Cross, seeing it used by the odd camera-happy tourist as a climbing frame was I thought, more than a little disrespectful.
Overall, if and when it Coron, it really is a rather 'Must-do'!
As always, happy and safe travelling.

We took the 720 step challenge to climb to the Mount Tapyas Viewpoint. It is recommended that you do it either early in the morning or later in the evening. We started our climb at 4:30pm, and it was still 87F with high humidity, but we wanted to do it and get back to our hotel before it got dark. You'll want to take advantage of the many rest stops along the way, and bring a good sized bottle of water or Gatorade on your way up. It is worth the sweat and sore legs to make it to the top, as you can see the entire town of Coron and the surrounding islands. Not recommended for people who have heart or breathing issues.

Does it have an entrance fee when going here? Is it open to public? Estimated time of climbing up and down? I really am interested on going to this place when i get there. And i wanted to see how its up hills! 😍
Written January 26, 2018
No entrance fee and it's totally open to public. Time to climb up really depends on how fast and steady your pace is. It took me around 20 minutes to reach the view deck as i made a lot of stops on my way up. Make sure to climb all the way up the view deck as the view up there is amazing.

Hi! My husband and I will be here in November. We hope to climb this mountain. Do you recall if the mosquitoes were out? Should we bring repellent? Thank you!
Written September 4, 2017
Hi Liane...yes it would be a good idea for you to use a mosquito repellant considering you'll be climbing up a mountain with lots of plants around. Nothing to lose by being prepared and protected!
Written September 10, 2018
Mt. Tapyas is open to the public 24/7. No entrance fee needed. It serve as recreational activity in the area. But one must bring hydration if plan to go there. Advise to be there early in the morning to see sunrise and to explore farther. It is also good to go there at night, the pathway is well lighted by solar lamps but you cannot explore the hill side of the area because its not lighted.
