Decided to walk into Paula and Catalin's freediving shop to work on my breathing technique for diving and walked out after two amazing days with professional instructors and wonderful welcoming people- Paula and Catalin!

I heartily recommend this experience to anyone who wants to learn or improve their freediving by working in a very customized way with their personal trainers. Catalin and Paula are very respectful of their customers and never book the course for more than a few people, so you get to work with them in a very focused manner and receive personalized feedback on each of your dives. Their teaching technique and skills are extremely effective as you know exactly what to do better next time.
Apart from this, getting to the Barracuda lake and diving there is a wonderful experience on its own. Speed boat to chrystal clear waters and learning to freedive at your own pace.

Thank you Catalin & Paula and hope to see you again soon! :)

Couldn't have been happier with this course. Cat and Paula are welcoming, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Cat's teaching style is no-BS, he tells you what you've done well (and means it) and tells you what you need to improve (over several dives, so you don't have too much to think about on each dive). The result is feeling calm and comfortable on the dives in a surprisingly short amount of time. Plus, you get to do all this in the beautiful Barracuda Lake, with the underwater karst rock formations and crazy temperature inversion. Absolutely worth the money. Thank you Cat and Paula for an amazing experience!

First thing that comes in mind when you are trying for the first time freediving is a great teacher. Cat is definitely not one. He's a mentor. He will not only bring you to twenty metres in a snap Of a finger and in the most safe manner but he'll also pass on you his passion for freediving and what it means to be part of this magical aquatic environment.

Not to mention the place. Barracuda Lake is probably one of the best places to freedive in the region. Once you experiment the crystal clear water, the warm currents at the bottom and the peacefulness of this place you cannot help but think you'll never go back to your place.

Mask on, breath in your are up for one of the best experiences in your life.

booked my freediving beginner course online few weeks before getting to Coron. I choose Freediving Coron after viewing several schools around Philippines and I am so glad I did. I didn't expect what I achieved in only few hours. Cat has been amazing in teaching our little group, in simple words, simple ways but very efficient if followed. It is not only theory and a lot comes from your own mind, and I had and still have to fight with that. But now I have the tools to win and improve. Doing my first real freediving experience in Barracuda lake was stunning, the calm waters and lack of salt was great and so helpful plus the surroundings were simply stunning. I would choose Freediving Coron over and over again and if there will be a chance to do my advanced course with them I wouldn't hesitate.
Thank you so much again!

BUCKET LIST MUST DO. I cross the planet to dive in Barracuda Lake with Cat. Super professional, experienced, friendly, efficient, excellent enthusiastic teacher for beginners and advanced. World class! Cat and Paula have been diving with world champions. In Barracuda lake, you will have best conditions to begin freediving, improve and fun dive. No waves, cristal clear visibility, 30oC at surface and 38oC in the halocline at 14m, beautiful cathedral rock formations, caverns and fun tunnels, away from mass tourism. A joy. I was blessed to dive with Cat. Thank you from the heart.

I absolutely loved the discovery course! I would have done the 2 days course, but I had to leave the next day. So if you have the time to do it, do yourself a favour and take the whole course!

I never even had fins on before and I managed to go as low as 12 meters, that’s how good Paula, our instructor, was. I felt extremely comfortable and what really takes the whole experience to the next level is the environment - the lake is so beautiful!

This experience left me breathless!

Thank you so much, Cat & Paula for this wonderful day! I’ll never forget it!

My fiancé and I signed up for the starter freediving course. I had been diving reefs with a snorkel and taking photographs basically self taught. My fiancé knew how to swim but had no experience diving down under the surface.

In the beginning course we had Catalin (Cat) as an instructor. I can’t recommend Cat highly enough. I quickly realized I basically knew nothing about breathing, equalization and kicking etc. I had a lot of bad habits and mental inhibitions to come to terms with.

Cat slowly introduced many new aspects of freediving in a methodical and knowledgeable way adapting his approach individually for each of us in the beginning course. I was amazed by the progress my fiancé made in two days, significant depth below the surface. I went down 14 meters free immersion, into the reverse thermocline which I didn’t know was there!

I felt extremely mentally comfortable with Cat. His comments after each dive were very constructive and spot on. A very calm and psychologically supportive atmosphere at Freediving Coron produced results. I can not imagine a more perfect place to learn freediving than Barracuda Lake Coron island. Highly Recommended.

After the freediver course I decided to do the advanced course with Kat. This was a seriously mind blowing experience. He introduced a different level of technique for breathing and breath hold. The Static Apnea excercises at the pool were some of the most mentally challenging things I have ever done. I was guided through the experience with the gentle experience of a true master. Really mind blowing what I was able to do with his help.

Back in Barracuda Lake for two days we practiced more free immersion and exhale dives. I became more at peace with myself and accomplished more than I ever imagined possible. The whole experience was out of this world. Definitely the highlight of my trip to Coron!

My fiancé continued with Paula for three days and made amazing progress, long dives under the surface with mental ease. Thank you Paula and Cat!

Learning to freedive with Paula was an amazing experience! Her bubbly personality and the way her eyes light up when she speaks about freediving is contagious. Being able to do this course in Baracuda lake was the icing on the cake, amazing visibility to be able to take in the beauty of the tall lime stone structures streatchung to the ocean floor.

If you are planning to learn more about freediving in the Philippines, THIS IS THE PLACE for you! 🤩
Amazing experience, we learnt a lot of skills while also having fun and not felt the theoretical part as a burden 🥰
Both Cata and Paula are wonderful. Our instructor was Cata and we learnt a lot from him and the progress and confidence we have built over 2 days is unbelievable. I am someone who until recently could go underwater at all. I practiced duck dive a bit on my own but was obviously doing it wrong and I came to understand that from the first 10 minutes talking to Cata.
We have recently got certified as Open Water Scuba divers, but I can honestly say we enjoyed freediving a lot more - this is more than you looking at cute fish and corals - this is you relying on your mental strength first and foremost and the feeling is of being able to go past some milestones for is amazing. These skills will definitely serve you well in life.
We have done the course only to improve our snorkelling experience, but it is so addictive that we can’t wait to learn so more in the future:)
Thanks Cata and Paula for this amazing experience!

My fiance, Ethan, and I took the beginner freediver course and our instructor was Daniel. Ethan is already confident at swimming and I am terrified of deep waters.

At the beginning of our two-day course, I was not honestly confident that I could overcome my fear. I had expected that I would not be able to carry out the required rescue demonstration to get the certificate.

The two days of line training was the perfect length of training for me to overcome my fear. On our first day, Ethan reached 7 meters, while I reached 3 meters because I was way too in my head feeling terrified. However, Daniel provided excellent support and empathy for my fear, he knew how to encourage people, which gave me the confidence to keep going.

On the second day, Ethan reached 13 meters, while I reached 7.5 meters, which was a great achievement for me since I was terrified of deep waters. Daniel reminded me that relaxation is the most important when it comes to being able to go deeper and have a longer apnea.

I started as a person who was scared even with a life jacket on, but since May 2023, I have been confident about duck diving down to 5 meters without a line. Now, I no longer miss out on being able to explore more underwater since I am no longer held back by my fear. Ethan now has a stronger Frenzel equalization and is able to duck dive easily to 10 meters.

I hope to reach greater depths, strengthen my equalization, and come back again for the advanced freediver course.

One of the best parts of this experience is that our open water sessions were held at Diwata Lagoon in Paolyn Houseboats, and the second day was in an exclusive part of Barracuda Lake, away from the many tourists.

I am grateful for meeting the instructors of Freediving Coron, Daniel, Tex, and Cat, because they were passionate about helping people gain confidence in deep waters, and they truly provided instruction that is tailored to what Ethan and I were capable of.

I am also extremely grateful to Daniel for helping me achieve this. I will never forget the day I overcame my fear of deep waters.
