About
Located in the railway town of Capreol, the museum is a must see destination for any history buff. Home to a unique collection of rail history, the collection is highlighted by retired CN steam locomotive #6077. The museum house, a former home belonging to the local railway superintendent, boasts an impressive collection of artifacts related to the lumber and mining industries. The museum's Heritage Centre, located in the town's former Fire Hall and Police Station sheds light on the regions social history.

Nice little side trip from Sudbury (half day). My kids were bored with the actual trains but enjoyed the set-ups of the box house and school car to see how people lived. And my kids enjoyed the playground and the Heritage centre around the corner (included in price to train museum).

Really cool place! They have a museum in the house and it shows some of the old train equipment they use as well as some of the old conductor outfits! However, the real fun is on the outside where you get to go inside these old steam trains! They also have another museum a little bit further down the road, which shows the first fire station in the city as well as the first jail! They also have this amazing toy model train which just blows your mind!

This is the best experience ever, in the Sudbury area. Love the history and collection of antiques, not to mention the miniature railway town model. Tour guides are knowledgeable and go beyond to make your visit a great one. Took about two hours, including the tea room visit. (this was in 2019)

If you love Railroads here's a jewel not to miss. Located right next to the very active railyard in Capreol Ontario give a broad view of life back when the railway was a way of life in that area. Not too many of these big old engines around

While in the area, allow time for this little gem. If you uncle like mine in the past used to run trains for a hobby, you'll catch the bug here. So much history, great photos, friendly staff and a old time look just being around this area. Gives me the feelings of times gone by. It was a little out of my way but I decided to make time for it.

An easy drive from Sudbury to Capreol. This is a Fascinating place to while away a few hours, even for someone like me who is not a train enthusiast. As well as the trains, there is the Museum House, which holds some wonderful artefacts and historical information. There is a tea room, a picnic area and a very pretty Garden. Your ticket also admits you to the Heritage centre which is located close by in the old fire hall and police station, with the original jail. This building also houses a wonderful model railway.

This is a very cute little museum that has some great train exhibits and a lot of local history stuff. The grounds are fabulous and they have a little playground that my son loved.

Also in there second site there is a fire engine that kids can climb in and look around.

The guide was really great and spent tons of time talking to my son.

This is a real hidden gem of Sudbury.

Looks like a nice museum, but they only take cash or debit card only. Unfortunately, we did not have enough Canadian cash and do not use debit cards for security purposes.

Capreol was a division point on the Canadian National. The museum is housed in the former Superintendant's house next to the rail line. There is a small collection of equipment adjacent to the museum. The CN locomotive is a special piece as is the CN caboose. Very nice model railroad in the Heritage Center. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Well worth a visit for RR buffs and great for kids as well.
