This is a gem, nestled in Whiteness, Shetland, we have visited many times and each time brings the same pleasure. On a sunny day we sit outside and look out over the hills and wildflowers, while the friendly staff bring the home-bakes. Traditional and affordable. Up-stairs you have the added bonus of a gallery and shop, there have been some amazing displays from traditional knitting with a twist to paintings. This gem has it all and never disappoints.

We stopped to browse the gallery (and bought some art). Multiple styles and offerings are on display, attractively positioned for effective viewing, not crammed in. The young woman at the desk/register was very helpful. The small cafe on the lower level is airy and light, looking out on a scenic stream valley.

We visit from time to time and are not always bowled over by the gallery exhibits but the Shetlandmade series have been good, but we always enjoy the cafe with very high quality food and really good coffee and cakes.

Fine cafe food and good service. The art and artisan displays were of very high quality and quite varied.

The restored remains of Weisdale mill, a former watermill. We stopped off for a drink on a very, very wet day. Watch the opening times as it's not open early, but it was very pleasant once inside. Don't miss the automata inside the door which was made by a local craftsperson and is a very clever way of extracting a small donation, otherwise it's free. Inside there is a small shop of crafts and related items, and then upstairs an ever changing exhibition of high end goods by local craftspeople. This is more like a high class London gallery and seems out of place in Shetland. More pictures for sale adorn the café. Whilst is appears in all the tourist literature, if you were oblivious to this, it's on a minor back road not in an obvious location, not well signposted and could easily be missed, which would be a shame.
