Nothing special if anywhere but near the ocean the place and the itinerary are a proof that Cotentin is offering any kind of landscapes, something as a small representation of what France is (without Alpes). Excellent for picnic.

An unusual lake set in a small pcturesque valley tha has beeen occupied by the Romans, and during WW2 by the German army until liberated by General Patton. Crystal clear water surround by natural woodland with a ruined church thrown in for good measure. At weekends, there is a a small cafe and boat hire facility but being alone, walking around the high ground surrounding the lake is peaceful bliss.

Actually this is not near Coutances as Tripadvisor suggest, but about 20 minutes north near our house in Lithaire. Two peaceful lakes with buvette open for refreshments in the season. A few pedaloes for the children, with adults as the water is deep. Near the sight of a Roman settlement, an old church and ruins of fortified chateau. Also the scene of a major battle in June 1944.
