We are a tour operator and transports of the Serrania Macuira, High Guajira Colombiana. Really wonderful tour to beautiful places that everyone visiting Colombia should visit. Once in a lifetime experience that you'll not get anywhere else.

We did the 3 days tour to Punta Gallinas. The tour was very nice but the agency was super disappointing. When comparing with other persons, who did exactly the same tour than us, we paid the most expensive price...
Moreover, there is a choice between several places for sleeping the first night in Cabo de la Vela, and clearly the place where we slept was the worst one : super dirty, sleeping between 30 to 40 people in hamacs in front of toilets, etc..
Last, the driver provided by Macuira wasn't nice at all, despite our efforts to try to communicate with him.
To summarize : other agencies are better than Macuira, and cheaper.

We had an amazing experience with a fabulous guide/driver and translator who made us feel incredibly safe, and well
Informed.

If you are going to travel in La Guajira be aware that it is extremely poor and under-developed. There are no roads and you will spend long hours in the car - but what amazing scenery to look at, and experience. The accommodation and food are at best very basic, and you will be hot and dusty. Please don’t let this out you off as the reward is well worth the price that must be paid. There are no options of accommodation so you just have to accept it for what it is.

Once in a lifetime experience that provides another aspect of life in this fascinating country.

Great company, great tour! We could change plan and get an extra day to go to Macuira Park, which was the best part of the whole trip. Highly recommended going there too if you have the time.

We booked the mochilero plan, that is 2 night 3 days where we would visit Cabo de la Vela and Punta Gallinas, and we couldn't be more pleased, Macuira Tours showed the upmost professionalism from the very moment we contacted them. We visited gorgeous scenery and learned a lot about the region thanks to John, our driver/guide. We totally recommend them.

If you are considering a visit to La Guajira Peninsula, I strongly recommend a visit. While it is not easy, it is a magical area and an unforgettable experience.

My trip with Macuira Tours was outstanding in every respect. There was not one single hitch. Laila was extremely cordial and helpful all the way from my inquiries about tours through the registration and payment process.

Euro was our driver and if you are lucky enough to get him, it will further enhance your experience. He is Wayuu and knows the area like the back of his hand. While he claims not to be a "guide" he provided tons of clear information and answered all questions. He was very fun and entertaining and seemed to know everyone in the area. He was also a great driver.

While there are many options for tour companies out there, stick with a proven company like Macuira.

I just got back from the 4 day Kai package trip. It's an absolutely gorgeous area and Macuira Tours shows you all the highlights. The tour was very well organised and the highly professional guide enriched the experience with insights and jokes. I really recommend visiting Macuira Parque as well, it's a magic spot without a lot of visitors.

My partner and I traveled on Plan Juya, which had a big draw of visiting Macuira National Park, since most travel companies do not go there. The park consists of a mountain covered in forest and surrounded by desert, and truly was a paradise. To visit the park, you're accompanied by a Wayuu guide, most of whom grew up or live in the park. The cloud forest at the mountain summits are sacred space for Wayuu and not accessible to tourists.
Our driver and guide for the rest of the tour, Arturo, was incredible. Some of the spots - Cabo de la Vela, Punta Gallinas - were well on the tourist track, and many outfits follow similar schedules. Arturo got us to places ahead of the pack, so we had some solitude in incredible landscapes. For tourists with at least intermediate Spanish skills, I highly recommend Macuira Tours. Arturo added another a whole other level to the beautiful views with context about La Guajira and Wayuu culture. The homestay at a Wayuu ranch with Luz Marina was comfortable, peaceful and also provided an expanded understanding of Wayuu culture.
Macuira Tours cost slightly more than some competitors, though they practice responsible tourism and give back to local communities.
Before traveling, we read a lot about road tolls - mostly children holding up rope or chain demanding a gift to pass - in La Guajira. I talked with Arturo about this and asked about gifts we could give. He suggested pencils, pens, and notebooks as many of the children can't go to school because they lack supplies. Most tourists give candy or cookies, which are not healthy for the kids. I also recommend you buy some boxes of pencils or pens ahead of time in Riohacha to get through the tolls, even if you don't end up taking Macuira Tours. Oh, and kids also LOVED stickers.
Another thing to note, the roads past the major tourist destinations can be rough. The experiences for us were worth it. Wow.
