About
We are a tour operator and transports of the Serrania Macuira, High Guajira Colombiana. We work hand in hand with our Wayuu brothers settled in each of the tourist sites; Who have been attending alijunas (white or civilized men) for years, who come to live unique and authentic experiences in the magical realism of our landscapes and our traditions, customs and customs.

If you are considering a visit to La Guajira Peninsula, I strongly recommend a visit. While it is not easy, it is a magical area and an unforgettable experience.

My trip with Macuira Tours was outstanding in every respect. There was not one single hitch. Laila was extremely cordial and helpful all the way from my inquiries about tours through the registration and payment process.

Euro was our driver and if you are lucky enough to get him, it will further enhance your experience. He is Wayuu and knows the area like the back of his hand. While he claims not to be a "guide" he provided tons of clear information and answered all questions. He was very fun and entertaining and seemed to know everyone in the area. He was also a great driver.

While there are many options for tour companies out there, stick with a proven company like Macuira.

We booked the mochilero plan, that is 2 night 3 days where we would visit Cabo de la Vela and Punta Gallinas, and we couldn't be more pleased, Macuira Tours showed the upmost professionalism from the very moment we contacted them. We visited gorgeous scenery and learned a lot about the region thanks to John, our driver/guide. We totally recommend them.

We had an amazing experience with a fabulous guide/driver and translator who made us feel incredibly safe, and well
Informed.

If you are going to travel in La Guajira be aware that it is extremely poor and under-developed. There are no roads and you will spend long hours in the car - but what amazing scenery to look at, and experience. The accommodation and food are at best very basic, and you will be hot and dusty. Please don’t let this out you off as the reward is well worth the price that must be paid. There are no options of accommodation so you just have to accept it for what it is.

Once in a lifetime experience that provides another aspect of life in this fascinating country.

We did the 3 days tour to Punta Gallinas. The tour was very nice but the agency was super disappointing. When comparing with other persons, who did exactly the same tour than us, we paid the most expensive price...
Moreover, there is a choice between several places for sleeping the first night in Cabo de la Vela, and clearly the place where we slept was the worst one : super dirty, sleeping between 30 to 40 people in hamacs in front of toilets, etc..
Last, the driver provided by Macuira wasn't nice at all, despite our efforts to try to communicate with him.
To summarize : other agencies are better than Macuira, and cheaper.

In the first instance, it is important that people know that it IS NOT IDEAL to travel in the months of October and November because the desert and other places in Alta Guajira are flooded, therefore, access becomes impossible, itineraries change and You cannot go to Punta Gallinas, which in my opinion is the most beautiful thing about this destination. I found out about this a few days before my trip, but not from the agency, but because I asked. If they had informed me of this, the story would be different and on another date.

At the beginning of the trip, one believes that all the people who are in the car have the same itinerary, but that is not the case, it is a mix of several agencies, with different accommodations and that they can end up leaving in one or two days.

At no time do you receive an explanation about the sites visited, unless you ask; Maybe the answer is vague and unfounded. It would be ideal for every plan to include a dialogue with a person from the Wayuu indigenous people, as this enriches the experience and makes it more interesting.

If for some reason you end up staying in Mayapo, do not choose chinchorro, since it is an area that floods and many mosquitoes and flies proliferate. You won't be able to sleep comfortably.

Finally, for not visiting Punta Gallinas, the destination of Camarones was offered to be in the Sanctuary of Fauna and Flora of Los Flamencos or Flamingos, which I don't know he enjoyed at all, because it was not season, the lagoon was very flooded and the food was the only place that did not meet the minimum expectations.

You have to be clearer with clients.

We have only words of thanks with Macuira, especially Carolina who from day one was very attentive and always friendly with her recommendations. Special mention to our driver Bood Ortíz, without a doubt the best, excellent person, smiley, friendly, respectful, patient and more than a driver a great guide knows the area perfectly, we feel safe and welcomed in the best way. Gracias Macuira, Gracias Carolina, Gracias Bood

5 days wtih the amazing indigenous Wayuu guide Euro through La Guajira. Interesting cultural insides, beautiful landscapes with deserts beside the sea, dunes and even forest in the national park of Macuira.

Only drawback has been an additional fee of 40.000 COP, after the Macuira tour to see a pozo. It has not been announced so we couldn´t even swim and was charged at the very end of the trip, even after filling in the feedback papers of the national park!

Beside this it was an overhelming trip!

Thank you very much for coming to La Guajira and trusting us for your trip to Alta Guajira. Euro is part of our family of the pausayuu caste of PNN Macuira, send greetings. We apologize for the value of Cop 40,000 charged for the ecoguide in the park, and Euro reported the additional charge for going to the water well that was not in the itinerary. We will pass the complaint to the national parks offices.
