Amazing spot
Dec 2016 • Solo
Cant recommend Caistron trout fishery highly enough. The most beautiful spot I've fished in my life. One of my first fly fishing experiences which Ricky helped out with, he couldn't be more helpful, friendly or open. Caught my fist brown & rainbow trout the day after Boxing day 2016, had the entire lake to myself. A really lovely community spirit, the Salmon folks fishing the river (different permit) helped me tie knots & gave some useful pointers with my casting.

Lovely place to spend the day fishing

Highly recommend this place, not just for the fishing but for the scenery and friendly banter with Ricky (owner). Sessions of 4 hours to full day, catch and release/take fish home- your choice. Nice trip, been back many times.

Delightful

A very pretty and peaceful setting for a newbie. Ricky was very chatty and helpful. The facilities were good. I didn't catch anything but I blame it on the wind conditions. People were also fishing the river nearby for salmon. A lovely place to spend an afternoon. Very good value. Highly recommended.

Totally outstanding.

I visit this stunning fishery often with my father in law and everytime it just gets better. Undoubtedly the most stunning fishery in Northern England and ran superbly by Ricky Chatterton. I had 8 top quality fully finned, hard fighting rainbows and lost another dozen or so. If it's quality fishing in stunning scenery you want, then look no further.

Excellent Fishery, Beautiful Surroundings, Great People!

I fancied a change of scenery from the usual trout waters surrounding Manchester/North West, so the dog and I took off with a tent to Northumberland for a couple of days after spotting good things to say about this place on fly fishing forums. I figured there would be other local places to try out too, but no need..... I got there and ended up spending my entire trip at Caistron. This place is the real deal and didn't disappoint. There are 3 well stocked, spring fed, trout lakes, and the River Coquet to go at right along side, with Salmon and Sea Trout running up it (separate ticket), amid beautiful surroundings, nestled in a valley right on the edge of Northumberland National Park. The owner, Ricky, was a star and made us feel very welcome. He wants you to have a good experience and conscientiously manages a very good fishery. There was a good bunch of regulars/locals too, who were very hospitable, with good advice and tips; lovely people all of them....... I have to give Gladys a special thank you for the chocolate cake :) I've been an avid fly fisher for over 25 years, and can vouch for this place being well worth the trip, but you wont need to be a so called 'expert' to catch........ as long as you've got some idea, you will catch here, and tuition from Ricky is available if you need it...... he knows his stuff ;) I will be returning to Caistron Fly Fishery again soon, probably with fishing friends next time, who seem very interested now I've told them about it. My advice........ if your thinking of fly fishing in this beautiful neck of the woods, don't miss out on Caistron. Like me, you probably wont want to leave.

Fly Fishing and Picnic (gods little acre)
May 2014 • Family
Come closer and listen to what I say, and promise me to keep it between you and I, contrary to U2s hit “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for”, I did! I found Gods little Arce, must be the best kept secret in Northumberland, I have a holiday home at Creswell Northumberland, my two grown sons came to stay and my eldest asked me if I was up for a bit of fly fishing, so I took up the challenge and off we went to Ricky Chatterton, “ Caistron Trout Fishery and River near Rothbury ”, we were blessed with sunshine, a warm welcome from Mr Chatterton, who offered us Tea, coffee, and later laid on a BBQ, now this was bank holiday Monday and his family had come along to visit, so don’t expect a BBQ every time, guess we were really lucky, the venue set on the “ River Coquet” is absolutely breath-taking, soaked with natural beauty, close to the Simonside Hills and the Northumberland National Park. Tuition and equipment can be provided with some notice, there is a cabin with table and chairs and a gas hob, tea, coffee and milk were at hand, there are toilets all nice and clean. Rowing boats are available for hire too, all very cheap. There are regular free shows with the wildlife, White Swans, geese, ducks and lots of other wild and wonderful creatures, the place is also great for non-fishers, gentle walks along the river and great for a picnic. If I could give this attraction 6 stars I would, its so tranquil, 12 hours we were up there and unfortunately it passed all to quickly, a truly wonderful day. Remember now Mums the word :O)
