Lovely area for walking the dogs, although slightly disappointed so many dogs off their leads, not so much for any aggressiveness, but our youngest is a bit fiesty around other dogs, so had to manage him more than required. However it is a lovely walk and especially with all the coffee shops in the village of Rothbury.

We had a big lunch in Rothbury and we were recommended this walk as an aid to digestion! Absolutely stunning walk in both directions and very safe too. We headed out of Rothbury first towards Thropton along the river and then across a field on a public footpath. I would say in total a one hour walk as a round trip. Very enjoyable on a sunny day!

We were staying in Rothbury, so a stroll along the river was easy and rewarding, especially as we were blessed with fabulous weather. Didn't risk the stepping stones as I was carrying my camera with a zoom lens attached! We were wondering if we would see dippers, and when we spotted some rocks in the river...there was a Dipper. They like fast rivers with rocks - they walk down them and under the water to hunt their food. I suspect ypu get kingfishers, too. I hadn't seen Rothbury for decades; it was remarkably unchanged. It's really worth a visit, but above all it is a superb base for a holiday, being well placed for just about you'd want to visit.

There is nothing touristy or flash about Rothbury, and that is no doubt part of its charm. And a major part of the village’s appeal is undoubtedly its river setting. It is a charming location and the riverside walks are an absolute joy. The paths are well made and maintained and the views and ambience are a pleasure to experience. It really is a lovely spot.

Very close to lovely river. Well used path with good all-weather surface that extends for some distance.
