Not many people in there (10/4) and you get to explore it mostly by yourself, crouch beneath stones and walk in thigh-deep water (if you go until the end of the cave). We were awed by the amount of glow worms that were hanging all...More

The cave is amazing. (But there is only one really awesome cave). The sign is very deceiving and makes you think that by doing the walk you will discover more awesome caves....... but you will not! After about 200 metres on the track you will...More

We visited the cave after heavy rain the night before. First: bring torches / Flashlights Second: be aware that your feed will get wet. However, the stream is about 3 to 4 fingers deep. But that depends i guess. It is awesome to go in...More

For 56 years I have driven past the turnoff to the Caves and now will recommend it to our guests staying at our B&B in Whangarei. The Waipu Caves are a 13km road (towards the end some of the road is unsealed)to get to the...More

Waipu caves. Arrived at car park and saw a small hand painted sign directing us to the caves. A short walk and there was the opening, no signs about safety or which route to take and when not to enter, it was as nature intended...More

We stayed at the camping ground right by the beach. And what a beach! Beautiful white sands to go for a long walk. The local cafe is close by and the fish and chips yum. Also close to Lang’s Beach another beautiful spot with Powhotaka...More

Fabulous free family fun. We got to walk in a cave with flowing water, mud, eels and glow worms exactly as nature intended it without all the commercialism. Well worth the 20 min gravel drive. Take a torch.
