Although I planned to book all my tours through Hyur Service, their scheduled tour for Echmiadzin Monastery did not fit into my itinerary so I did this tour independently. It was just a short bus ride from Yerevan. The Echmiadzin Monastery being a UNESCO world...More

A large complex covering more than 10 Christian buildings. Most of these got historical significance while few were added later. Just 30 min by taxi from Yerevan but can spend almost a day with all buildings. Better to read online before visiting the site.

A very important, old church, worth visiting. It's actually a complex with various interesting sites and some nice landscaping, too -- the canna were in full bloom in late September. The church itself is being restored so we had to view it behind some scaffolding,...More

Overall, this was disappointing, and we could not help but think we may have been better going a trip to Lake Sevan. The tallest parts of the exterior of the main cathedral were covered in scaffolding. The interior was a bit of a disaster zone...More

Echmiadzin is the Vatican of the Armenian Apostolic Church, the place where Surp Grigor Lusavorich saw a beam of light fall to the earth in a divine vision, and where he built the first Mayr Tachar (Mother Church of Armenia).

We were a little disappointed to discover, upon arrival, that massive renovation works are being done upon the main Cathedral and so the dome is largely hidden by scaffolding right now. Nevertheless, it's clearly incredible; you can see the detail on the designs on the...More
