Lovely views but very hard to get to! The queues for the funicular in Como were ridiculous and the crowds were madness! Police on the street having to stop the traffic it was so busy. I dread to think how busy it gets in the summer months when the weather is nice. No parking anywhere. So decided to drive up to here. Hair raising road to get here. Quite scary windey road with many parts only space for 1 car so you had to pray nothing was coming the opposite way. At one point my husband had to get out of the car to direct as we were stuck with another car and not enough room and a wall. Not the greatest experience in a hire car. At the top there's a small carpark and we were lucky to get a space thank goodness. You need to write the time you arrive on a piece of paper and put it on your dash board as max stay is 2 hours. There's a kids park and a couple of restaurants/cafes. One restaurant did have the most stunning views over the lake (if you do go I would recommend eating or having a drink here. See photo). The view from the bottom of the tower was ok but is obstructed by fencing so you can only see one section. Not sure the drive up there is worth it. We got a panaromic view from our balcony where we stayed in Gera Lario! If you did get the funicular up it's quite a hike up to here- we were surprised as to the distance. I would recommend the North part of the lake more. Far less crowded and far more picturesque with snow capped mountains and the same panoramic views.

Amazing views but to get there you have to master a really very very step uneven path and lot of stairs. Consider walking along the street instead.

Took the funiculore to Brunate to primarily get a great view of Lake Como. We achieved this with a spectacular view of the area. Well worth some time aside from the 15 minute ride up and then back down. The town is worth discovering let alone the opportunity for some wonderful photographs.

Good panoramic view on Como Lake.
This is easily accessible and not very far from parking(s) and the funicular.
You can go up there from Como through a small trail, without funicular, however:
- The road to go there is quite difficult, there are part that are very steep
- If it rains, I would not advise to go there except if you are prepared (and experienced) walking on rocks that are wet
- It is not kid-friendly

We started the trip by figuring out the cable train was closed for maintenance, so we decided to hike up from the station instead. The trip started easily enough by traversing some small Italian streets before finding a sign leading us in the right direction. After coming to where the path diverged, we used the app maps.me to determine which route to go for. We went for the "Via Carescione" route which is below the cable train. A steep, but very easy to find path which was well made with steps and stones. Jogging shoes was enough up, but I think if we were to walk down as well it would've been a real danger of slipping often due to the steepness. We also walked mostly in the shade as the mountain is cobered in forest. After coming to the top of the cable train we continued further on to the lighthouse. The path was more reminiscent of city streets from here. We also paid the 2 euros to go to the top of the tower. This is not required, as the view is very good from the bottom of the tower as well, but if you're there i suggest the top of the tower. We further took the cable train back down and enjoyed a lunch in Como. Great short hike that I highly recommend for anyone remotely engagef in hiking. Cheers!

The view at the entrance of the lighthouse is very nice,
but if you can - pay for an entrance and climb all the way up to the viewing point.
The view is stunning.

You can take a trip to the top. A bit expensive (10euro) but if you have nothing else to do then take this trip. Otherwise, the city is very nice.

Steep climb up by foot but there is a man there who offers round trips in an old style military truck. We opted to climb the hill from the cable cart and took approximately 30 minutes but it is a very steep climb. We got the truck back down and only took less then 10 minutes. The view from the lighthouse is fantastic, we went in the end of March so the lighthouse it self was closed so we couldn't go up it. But I have seen online you can pay a small fee and go up and get a panoramic view of lake como
