Not good at all that guy running it. JP is crazy and dangerous.

Huge amounts of plastic covers the dead reefs. Boat wouldn't start because JP put the a bad mix of oil and gas in the tank. Safety line was so rotten it was going to break at any moment. Over priced shoddy rental mask and fins ect. Go to El Nido instead.

I was thinking about trying freediving since August as my girlfriend was going to do her open water certification and I wanted to use the time to invest in myself by learning to freedive.

I researched and compared the different schools, AIDA, PADI/SSI, Molchanovs…etc.

In freediving forums they all said, the certification name didn’t matter, what was important was who you would train with.
But how can you know?!

So I hope with this review to share how the values of Freediving Planet really help me have an incredible experience I will always cherish. I cannot imagine a better place to do freediving (yes, big claim!).

JP the founder, is incredibly passionate about the ocean and freediving. He is also constantly advocating about how important safety is. The sport is growing a lot, and this means more people are practicing freediving without awareness of the risks.

I started with 0 experience, could only hold my breath for 30-40 seconds (yes that bad). In the first day of pool sessions I could already reach the minimum required by Wave 1, which is 1.5 minutes!!! I was shocked but very happy and excited!

In my mind the breath hold was the hardest part. If I got that right I would achieve the certification.

That was naive of me, going to open water I hit a wall called equalisation and depth. First day, was tricky to go past 6 meters. I was frustrated, but JP was always patient and encouraging. His philosophy about freediving was lazy life, but I wanted to get the certification so I was agitating myself about it!

That’s the beauty of freediving the further you want to go, the further you have to let go and relax. Just like the greatest things in life cannot be forced!

Letting go was not easy, in on of my last sessions, I was struggling to go beyond 8 meters, and another girl easily went to 18 meters… Ufff.

JP was always the voice of relaxation, when I was comparing, or wanting to force my way towards the goal.

I took me 2 extra coaching sessions but I finally did it. Each time, relaxing more and enjoying myself more, each time less worried about getting the certification.

It was a very insightful and exciting journey.

Our witnesses were turtles, thousands of sardines, plankton and friendly fish.

I can’t wait to dive again! I can’t wait to continue on this journey… more relaxation, more letting go, deeper and longer sessions in the beautiful blue!

If you are curious about freediving go Freediving Planet! You won’t regret it!

We did our Molchanovs Wave1 at Freediving Planet in Moalboal. We have learned so much and still had a very relaxing experience. Jean-Pol is an Amazing teacher and we felt very safe and in good hands all the time.
The Dive shop is only a few steps from the dive-site which is perfect and the provided equipment was great.
Make sure to check out the Sardine run in Moalboal after the course, with your new skills and confidence 🙂

Thank you to JP who was such a great teacher. I previously had a fear of freediving but he made everything seem so straightforward, and I really enjoyed the half day session. Looking forward to completing the course!

I can honestly say that I did not know what to expect when I took the course.
However, my experience was more memorable than I could possibly imagine.

The instructors are amazing. Huge shout-out to Jean-Pol (who is a brilliant teacher with lots of experience in the sport) as well as Christine (who made my open water experience less intimidating).

The thing I love about this company, and the instructors, is that they take huge priority in your safety while having fun during the learning experience.
I am thankful to have learned this technique, as I can see myself applying the breathing techniques in my everyday life.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to send them a message. Jean-Pol helped me with any questions that I had. He is very quick to respond.

My advise= .....just freedive with Freediving Planet MoalBoal. Period.

Great spot for food! We stumbled into this place as they have vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. We had vegan pancakes with a topping of your choice such as banana and maple syrup etc (84 peso each) which we ate too quick to take a photo. Also had an ‘orange power’ soup (115 peso each) which were super cheap and delicious! The view of the ocean off the terrace area is beautiful.
