One of the most accomplished examples of European Paleolithic Rock Art. The cave has outstanding geological formations (limestone speleothems) and very impressive paints. The guides are enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Worth the visit

Visit the museum first ( the garish building!) - this explains the cave system etc and very informative! We then went in the cave ( not the one with the cave paintings as this was fully booked all day even out of season so beware)....More

This was our third prehistoric cave experience during one trip to Spain and our favorite! The cave is HUGE and there is a considerable amount of walking but it is worth it! The museum is wonderful also--make sure you see it!

A rare gem. An amazing experience to see the first human art up close. My only criticism is the lack of commentary in any language other than Spanish. The Spanish speakers were enraptured but as I have no spanish I felt a bit left out.

Fortunately we booked the cave tour well in advance as we were advised to do on the website. We walked from our lodging to the caves in the pouring rain, one wet kilometre. We checked in at the museum first and had a look at...More

We were keen to find out more about the prehistoric cave painting. Museum was very informative, mostly in Spanish but some in English. Good views from the cafe on the roof. There was no spaces left on the tours of the caves with the paintings...More

You've got to go see this if you are interested in cave drawings. This portion of Spain is riddled with cuevos, some of them are Unesco sites. We have no pics because the light damages the drawings. Plus, you may not want to go on...More

Altamira is well-known as the site of spectacular cave art, although the original paintings cannot be visited for conservation reasons, but not many people have heard of the Cueva de Tito Bustillo where you can see the real thing, albeit on a smaller scale, in...More

This attraction was not over advertised in the region.. we walked over from our hotel - unfortunately no places on tour of caves with the palaeolithic are available so we opted for the other caves which were the geological formation. The museum/ exhibition was superb....More

Sorry for the delay in answer. I just see your question today. You have to plan for around one hour to one and a half depending of your interest. The visit to the caves itself is around half an hour but if you plan to visit... More
